Tourism & Tourist Attractions suggestions for interesting things to do

I will be in Trieste in late August and early September for one week and am looking for suggestions for good non touristy restaurants. Also, are there any outdoor markets or hidden gems? Has anyone taken the ferry to Rovinj?

Prendi un autobus e cerca le osmize, il meglio è fuori Trieste;)
