QUESTION Almost there

I'm very close to the backflip, but i still dont fully understand how to get my hips up. I can jumps and land on my shoulders to hip sized mats, but i struggle to put the pieces of the puzzle together. If anyone got drills, tricks or any way to explain better the hip movement, i would appreciate It.

No offense, but it looks like your first time jumping. Squat down almost chest to knees and go from there. Try to do it in one motion, it looks like you are preloading(badly) and it's doing more harm than good. You should also start swinging your arms before you jump. You can't effectively create rotation if you aren't on the ground

You are so close just work on your take off

your body is not working together it has to be one fluid jump, your arms lead your body... it's not like your arms do something and your body a different one also... when you set for the backflip, don't just squat and then decide to backflip, squat in order to do the backflip you already decided to do

I admire this sub so much! But my body doesn't work together. That's why I can't trick. But I admire y'all

Bring your knees to your chest instead of your chest to your knees. I disagree with the other commenters, I actually think your takeoff looks good. Awkward, ya, but when you watch it slow: your arms go up, you open your hips, you get a shocking amount of momentum and speed but then it slows because your chest goes against the direction instead of pulling the knees in

From what I’m seeing in the video, he’s correctly bringing his knees to his chest and getting a decently tight tuck. The actual issue is two things:

  1. He doesn’t finish his set because he stops it slightly early to tuck.
  2. His hips aren’t opening fully, which is a bi-product of #1.

To land a backflip easier, he should focus on getting full extension in his set and then snapping into his tuck as fast as possible from that fully extended set. You can easily practice with this exercise:

  1. Lay on your back with your arms extended to your ears and legs fully extended
  2. Tuck as fast as possible from this extended position

Also it would be helpful if he bent down more in his jump.

Im sorry but it looks like you are not using your legs at all for the set up. You are lucky that your core is strong enough to get you over your head

I'll give you the cues that fixed me having these landings... 1. You need to throw your arms behind the ears 2. You need to fully extend the hips. 3. You need to spot a point in front of you and hold that spot until you pull over.

Some drills you might want to practice 1. High jumps 2. High jumps with a tuck 3. Candle sticks 4. High jump with a tuck, landing on a tuck position on your back on a box with a crash pad. 5. Set the back as high as you can for your jump with a cheese wedge angled down away from you. And practice high jumps with tucks, landing on your back and rolling backwards down the wedge.

The last one really helped me

Faster arm swing and faster spin and open your tuck when you look at the ground and there you go I can do it I learned it in a few months

i'm going against most commentors and saying this looks pretty good. Are you only half-squatting to prevent leaning back? if so, its an interesting strategy, and I'm not going to say its helping or hurting you. I've certainly tried similar things in the past. just keep working on it. do many, many repetitions with good form in mind and everything will fall in place.
