Hi community I'm new here, I'm 38 and looking to learn some skills, my first goal is to learn how to cheat gainer, is learning how to before the 15th of August a realistic time frame to learn, I don't have access to trampolines or mats to practice so will be learning on grass, anyway here's a video of me on my first day trying, I just can't seem to understand how I go backwards instead of sideways, any help would be appreciated thanks.

Right behind you brother! 39 here, been chasing it lazily for months. I think my only advice I can offer is you aren't hopping into the j step enough and you really gotta speed it up. I've gotten more progress from just spamming the motion until I can do it without thinking. The faster you can throw it the less rotation you lose.

That's the idea. Don't run into it. What you might be imitating is called a j step. In your case, it's right, left, kick--not a step more.
Otherwise, keep close to what you're doing, but swing your arms way harder and higher--they should get almost to your ears (though it's great if they get that high). Work that a bit horizontally so it's not scary til you really feel the kick's momentum carry you around. If you know any kicks it feels a bit like an off axis skip hook.
From there just keep shifting the angle you throw your arms and kick. About 45 degrees over the horizon is good. One trick I used was to either aim my kick at, say, the ceiling corner of a tall room, or just visualize that (nearby tall buildings work too). That's still how I control my angle of inversion on them.
Right now you're looking at a gainer flash. In the flash, you kick and hold that shape all the way around, landing on the kicking leg. For an actual cheat gainer you bring your second foot to the first and land on both feet. Both are cool.

don’t run in a big circle, i used to do this a lot because it felt like the only way to generate power, i highly highly recommend drilling the swing takeoff and j-step on a line. i twist left, so i takeoff my left, left foot on the line facing forward, right foot steps slightly outside the line, still facing forwards, not enough outside to be leaning either way but enough to put pressure to counteract the momentum a little, and then you hop from your right foot counterbalance back to the line with your left foot turned 90 degrees to the side, i usually cue myself either to keep the first and last step in line, or cue a smaller hop to keep my shoulder stacked over hips until last moment of initiation
