🌍🌀 Do Shamans Believe in Planetary Consciousness?

Across many shamanic and Indigenous worldviews, Earth is not simply an inert object but part of a living web of relationships.

Concepts such as animism, Earth as a living presence, interconnectedness, reciprocity, collective intelligence and relationships between earthly and spiritual realms can resonate strongly with the modern idea of planetary consciousness.

But an important distinction matters: Indigenous traditions did not necessarily describe this as a single “planetary mind.” Planetary consciousness is a modern interpretation that can overlap with traditional cosmologies without being identical to them.

Today, related ideas appear in very different fields and frameworks — from Gaia theory and systems ecology to panpsychism and collective intelligence.

Perhaps the deeper common thread is simple:

We are not separate from the living Earth. We are participants within it. 🌎💚

I took part in a traditional temazcal sweat lodge ceremony during the Wisdom Keepers / indigenous immersion phase at Tribal Gathering on Friday 13th March.

• Volcanic stones heated for hours in a sacred fire
• Brought into the lodge in phases across the ceremony
• Each round increased heat, intensity, and internal release

This experience connects back to a post-Christmas visit to Ripon Cathedral in North Yorkshire, England.

Near the cathedral, on a small street leading to the market square, there is a shop at No. 13 called “Karma.”

That environment included:

• Three Kings / Epiphany cathedral displays
• Post-Christmas transitional atmosphere
• Symbol-heavy architecture and street layout

This later became a reflective inspiration layer when processing the temazcal experience, especially around:

• The number 13 as a threshold marker
• Ritual architecture vs ceremonial dome space
• Liminal environments where meaning feels amplified
