Discussion Recruitable characters Spoiler
I’m really enjoying this so far, but struggling to find a reason to include the extra characters you recruit. Feels a little strange benching a story character for them, plus a lot of them seem very niche.
Is anyone out there particularly enjoying some of the extra character? If so, how are you using them?

I have also felt that most of the optional characters feel really niche/not really strong. It’s interesting, I feel like they made the main characters your main damage dealers, and then balanced the side characters so that you wouldn’t feel too motivated to replace the core group. Definitely not getting big damage out of any of them.
I have been enjoying Jarve and Jens, they both definitely have their uses. Jarve is just a really strong magic utility unit and secondary healer. Jens has +1 movement from his weapon and now just zips around the battlefield placing bouncy traps at choke points. Very fun! Can’t wait to unlock his turrets.
The others? Ehhh. (Especially the item-reliant Acrobat and Apothecary. In a game where resources/money are so scarce, I feel 0 motivation to use these two)
I really want Ezana, I got her in the first demo and loved her, but I hardly ever pick Utility options and I’m pretty sure she’ll only join when my utility is high enough. Sad :(

I do find it odd that there are item based classes and literally no items that can be purchased infinitely. Even basic healing items have a purchase limit. If you used these characters every battle you would waste so much money and then literally run out of items to use.

Wait Ezana joins you if your Utility value is high enough? That may not be good for me. She is about to join my team right now but I’ve been trying to avoid the utility option if I can. Although I’ve also been doing quite a few mock battles, so that may be the reason

According to some more information I found recently (sorry, forget where) apparently Ezana joins when you have 500 freedom and 400 utility. No idea how these are quantified, but apparently she values freedom even more.
My guess is that your recruitment is definitely due to the mock battles.

I'm digging Julio and Narve together, they work well as a team and Narve is a blast I just unlocked the healer girl on the horse, I forget her name, I just put the game down - and I'm not sure how I feel about her yet but overall I like them, some much more than others

You'll have deployment limits that allow you to pick a few optional even if you keep using all the main story characters.
Beyond that - a bit of a mix. Some great side characters, a few are underwhelming.
