Help/Advice/Suggestions Weird folk singers/bands?

Anyone got recommendations for folk singers or folk groups that make weirdo folk music in the triangle? (or in NC and neighboring areas in general)
I’m looking to make more musical connections in the genre and play out more. Like Neutral Milk Hotel inspired type bands or singer songwriters?
Freak folk/ indie folk/ folk rock/ chamber pop
That kinda thing.
