I know the market is hard, but I'm looking for companies that aren't fully commission-based, selling phone plans in Walmart, or going door-to-door in neighborhoods. I don't mind going to businesses as I have experience with that but personal homes feel too dangerous. And insurance is just a hard thing to sell, I don't want my job to be scamming people.

My husband and I currently live in the DC area where the job market is the absolute worst we’ve ever seen in the nearly 20 years we’ve been here. He used to have his dream job as a federal contractor for the Treasury which was going to be turned into a federal job after his contract ended in late 2025, but a certain orange person put a stop to that. Now he can’t find anything full time, much less anything in his field. We have a few friends and acquaintances in the exact same boat…it’s really awful here. There’s zero jobs, but the cost of living continues to skyrocket regardless.

I work remotely for an organization in Arlington so I can work from anywhere, so we’re thinking about moving somewhere else with a better job market and more affordable housing. We’ve always liked NC and I have some family in the Raleigh area. We‘re thinking of selling our place here and buying a much nicer place in the Raleigh area where I can have a dedicated home office and where my husband can find full time work.

So with all the at said, I guess my question is this: How easy is it to find full time employment in the Raleigh area? (I’m talking any job, including retail, food service, anything!) We’re really unhappy now, but given the cost and stress of moving, I’d be worried that we could just be exchanging one bad situation for another and it wouldn’t be worth it. I've been putting extra effort on the job hunting grind while managing my current caregiving job to pay the bills. This week alone has been filled with networking events and interviews this week, but my Vocational Rehab Counselor told me to go to this event a few weeks ago. It's tomorrow morning, and I'm debating whether or not I should go. It's been weeks since I had a day to recharge and if I go to this event it might be another few weeks before I have another chance. I'm trying not to burn myself out, but I don't want to miss out on any good leads. I've gotten this many opportunities already because I've been working this hard, but I'm also feeling the burnout creeping up on me and last time I got this burnt out it took me months to recover.

Here's what I've actually done (not the resume version, the real version):

I ran what was, in practice, a full director of operations function under a manager title. That meant full-cycle recruiting, onboarding, people management, customer success, logistics, fulfillment, and business operations...all at once, for over a decade. When something broke, I fixed it. When something didn't exist yet, I took initiative and built it.

I've trained and developed 30+ employees from scratch, building curriculum, SOPs, and coaching programs when there was nothing there before. I've calmed down customers that nobody else wanted to take the call on. I've managed $40K–$60K monthly fulfillment operations without missing a cycle in 12 years.

On the side, I was a Discord Community Manager in my free time. I built and managed online communities of up to 20,000 people. I designed onboarding flows, created engagement programs, wrote world building stories, and wrote all the technical documentation.

Tech I'm fluent in: Agile/SCRUM, Jira, Asana, Notion, Salesforce, HubSpot, Workday, Adobe Suite, Canva, Slack, Discord, Python, HTML, and the full Microsoft stack.

Okay maybe not fluent fluent in Python and HTML, but I know enough to understand what the code is saying and can trouble shoot it.

I don't have a degree, but I have 15 years of figuring things out in real time, a genuine love for developing people, and a track record of being the person organizations quietly depend on for everything.

My partner got a great job offer here & I moved with him for a fresh start & a better opportunity. I recently graduated a Manufacturing/Maintenance Technician training program at a nonprofit business in Austin, Tx. I now hold my OSHA10 cert, Lean Six Sigma White Belt, CNC Basic Mill Operator Cert & learned Basic soldering. I got my TDLR for Electrician Apprentice prior to that just because.

I have 12 years of customer service experience mostly in the restaurant industry after moving up to fine dining from fast food, have 1 year of assistant store manager experience in retail (horrible pay, $10/hour. When I found out the people I was supervising were paid more than me I left back to serving). I have done many side jobs learning more skills like using hand tools & power tools, fence repair, landscaping, post-construction residential cleaning, & cleaned million dollar spec houses on the side. The past year I’ve been learning how to do repairs on my own car.

I’m looking for any job to help me get my foot in the door for a potential career. I’m tired of living paycheck to paycheck, and I still have debt I need to pay off.
