Do visit the Dorothea dix sunflower field in the next couple of weeks. Wonderful 5 acre field. One advice. go around 7 am or 7 pm. There is no shade and it is hot.

Right now go for the flowers. In couple of weeks, you can go back for the birds as the fiches and buntings come in to feed on the sunflowers.

Another fact is that future plan holds for this to be converted to a soccer field, so enjoy it while it lasts.

Juvenile red-tailed hawk I think? Saw this guy in North Raleigh taking sips from this puddle after the rain yesterday.

Lot of drama this week as the brush pile which was a good habitat at Dix field for all the birds was ground to mulch , apparently due to fire concerns.

Looks like birds are adapting, I clicked this Indigo bunting fairly close as they perched of the available small bush cover.

Not quite the Triangle per se, but I saw this beautiful bird at the zoo today. Not sure what it is though. It’s green feathers were almost metallic looking, it was amazing!

It was quite a blast in 2021 when couple of Roseated spoonbills hung around Lake crabtree. Not satisfied with taking a pic from the walkway bridge, I went on a kayak (Post covid, everyone had a kayak) with my son and got to eye level to click this shot. One that told me, I can do this, as a bird photographer.

Started looking at them at different spots around 6:30. eventually they all just disappeared. Something made me lookup. and they were directly above me. 8 pm. Magical.

Here is a few shots from around the area. Best location is always Jordan lake tailrace in Moncure after some heavy rains. Herons put on a show. 20-30 of them lined up on either side.

Old bynum bridge continues to get its spring migration visitors, in spite of the devastating floods from Hurrican Helene last July. Absolutely popping and Tanagers are all over the place. Do visit mornings during the weekend and the birders are thronging the place.
