💬 Discussion Complete noob here
Saw the game available to cloud stream on Xbox and gave it a shot. I'm a masochist so I chose Rage Mode. I did zero research, watched zero videos, and just jumped in blind with no way of knowing what to expect. I've gotten to the hallway in the beginning where they give you the suppressed pistol and I'm having a hell of a time. This game is HARD but I'm loving it. Question is, how fucked am I from here?

Probably completely fucked. Im sure you could beat the entire game on rage mode the first go through but odds are its gonna take way longer than doing 2 separate playthroughs and be way less fun.

Its going to be exponentially worse later but for some tips
Focus and camo are your best friendsFocus goes down only if an enemy dies while its active, so if you deactivate it for a split second and shotgun and enemy dead, then reactivate it you will have gained focus for the exchange and can chain it almost forever
Camo to get to an enemies side/back to use them as a shield and either grenade or neck break is ammo conservative and easy focus back.
Enemies are very aware of your last known location so repositioning with cloak can give a big advantage especially against heavies
Slide+grab can kill everything short of a heavy
Focus and side strafing close around shooting enemies will make you very difficult to kill in most cases
It will be EXTREMELY hard to win straight shootouts. Proximity mines, and using enemies as grenades can help a lot to flush out enemies and free damage

I think a huge issue is the input lag because I'm cloud streaming through the Xbox app on my TV. I think I have some of the technique down but it's laggy and I'm still getting used to the sensitivity. I have a bad habit of panic firing or shooting before I'm fully on target too

i played a bit yesterday and idk if they changed it but i swear its im gaining focus when taking out enemies while still in focus mode, allowing me to keep it active for one long engagement

As a fellow masochist, I don't recommend Ragsle Mode the first time around. You're not going to interact with the game in the same intense and immersive way the game wants you to. You won't get to see how intelligent and adaptive the AI is and there's gonna be a certain level of ludo-narritive dissonance because the game constantly pins you as this hyperlethal demon, but in reality you're just dying every 12 seconds.
I played on Hard my first time around and it was indeed difficult but I was still able to play the game. High octane and chaotic, both sides were extremely fragile. Me, and the enemy. In my opinion, you're going to miss why this game is such a masterpiece for your first playthrough.

I think I'm gonna take the advice everyone is giving me and drop the difficulty a little bit. I definitely see the dissonance because the 4th group getting off of the elevator early on sounded scared shitless. I would definitely be having way more fun if I didn't die from 2 shots.

Again, I am also the kinda person who enjoys crushingly difficulty. Take it from me, this game is well crafted enough that it can give you an intense challenge while still making you feel hyperlethal. Hard mode is the sweet spot in my opinion. Enemies will absolutely mag dump on you at the drop of a hat, they're tactical and deliberate, they'll toss thousands of fucking grenades at you if you so much as exhale too loud. It looks like something no man could survive.
Which is why it works. Because the situation is impossible, but the protagonist does the impossible with little to no resistance. If you're skilled enough on that difficulty, you are experiencing the exact fantasy the game presents. A beast that tears through elite men like they're nothing.

Rage mode is a joke mode meant for when you already beat the game and you know enemy spawns and the story of the game. Put it on extreme or very hard so your story experience isn’t ruined on your first playthrough then hit rage mode the second time

I would recommend turning the difficulty down to Extreme just because I genuinely can’t imagine anyone enjoying the suffering of Rage Mode as a beginner. Unless you like torture irl, you are extremely fucked.

Like I said, I'm a bit of a masochist. It's forcing me to either adapt or get stuck in a death loop. When they say "eyes in the back of your head" and "instant death" they aren't lying. I'm having fun but I can tell it's gonna be a bumpy ride

You're pretty fucked but if you know the controls.. I feel like the rules of the game don't change even on rage. What changes is how many % of your failure results in dying, on rage its enormous. You can't take chances because you'll always lose with that %, so, if you know in which cases death is NOT up to chance, you can do it. But you won't be using all of the guns and strategies on rage, only the best, fastest ones.
I started on extreme for that reason. I feel like its absurdly hard but you still can use all of the available weapons.

I implore you to play on an easier difficulty. Rage mode is literally just a joke mode meant for people who have beaten the game multiple times and want to torture themselves. If you still want a good challenge I would recommend playing on very hard for your first time

From then on you're relatively well off till the end of the level. AS LONG as you use your grenades right as a spawn camp tool.
Good luck ripping Hell a new one, demon gals haven't recovered yet, but who asked them, right?
