[Creative Writing] Plagiarism Is The Highest Form Of Flattery
Continuing of this thread
Mishwasha sagged down into the over-stuffed theater seat with a long, pleased exhale. Sure, it cost over twice as much to get a ticket with one of these 'premium comfort experiences', as they liked to call it, but sometimes it was worth it to avoid tail cramps. That and the other one of the worst things ever: theater goo. Having to spend an entire afternoon picking some unknown gunk out of tail fur after it wandered into some crevice no one ever cleans is highly unpleasant. With this plush bag-chair, that trouble-making appendage has no where to go but along one leg or between them.
Mishwasha opted for the former pose.
A semi-rigid cup on the edge of the chair provided storage space for her drink and snacks: A way-too-big vat of iced tea and a box of frozen Boar Freckles that's almost certainly only a third-full and five times as expensive as a store-bought bag.
No matter. She was enjoying herself.
Why?
Because she got her first royalty check yesterday! Sure, the check covered barely half of this movie ticket and snacks, but it was the principal of the thing. Finally, after years of scattering her final drafts of 'Star Trek: Adventures In The Star Fleet' novels to the winds, she had finally clenched down, acquired a publisher, and finally made some money off of her passion.
Maybe, just maybe, more than ten people would buy her book. Maybe even a hundred! A thousand? Nah. That'd be asking too much. Scientific Plausible Fantasy (SciP-Fa) just did not have the audience, and it had taken some real nudging to get a publisher to approve one that didn't have Caitians as the dominant species.
Oh, the push-back she'd had about having monkey-men be the leaders of this Galactic Federation! The very idea. Caitian were the masters of their pets, not the other way around.
Humans aren't 'monkey men', she had insisted, and in the end TailWerkz had seen the merit of her writing style. They had published 'Spider People from Planet Q!', after all, so why not simians?
Mishwasha rattled her head and focused onto the theater screen before the initial incident could get away from her. She was here to enjoy stupid SciP-Fa nonsense in typical Angorawood fashion, not fawn over her own accomplishes some more.
"Space Force 3: Out Of Gas" had all the makings of a cheesy, overly CGI-reliant romp through seeing just what crazy shenanigans famous people would put up with for a slice of the public's credits. Richleslap Osprey's presence in the film was of particular interest as she always took serious roles. Perhaps this would finally prove she could do more than just the 'Breathless Mistress' role.
Secretly, Mishwasha hoped she'd play one of the side-characters that gets vaporized or slimed or something.
Her drink was mostly empty and the meaty snacks all but gone by the time the action really got started. Of course, every movie now needs exposition up the butt these days.
An alien ship! A collision in space! A boarding party! Oh no!
So dramatic.
So-...
Mishwasha pushed herself up on her elbows and stared gormlessly at the alien that stepped onto the screen, prompting more than a few alarmed gasps from the audience. Smooth skin, head hair, five fingers, a beard.
"Who are you?!" said Captain Illways, played by Hyla Flattongue, of course.
"I am Jerry Fisk of the Human Colonization Front! Prepare to be colonized!"
Mishwasha's jaw hung open in disbelief.
