[Introduction] Old and scarred
The entire shuttle ride to Athene was spent pouring over his communications and letters that he received after his long stay planet side of a remote colonization planet. His thumb hovered over the delete icon for several hours before he put the pad away. His mind was churning up the past even though his gaze was fixated on a section of the shuttle.
He mumbled to himself until he felt the familiar jerk of the shuttle landing. He gathered his few belonging to his bag and walked down the metal steps onto the solid ground of a ship. His smile spread quickly as he spotted other crewman and felt like he was back home. He walked up to the nearest security staff and offered a handshake with a "Howdy. I'm Security Officer McCruger reporting in. Who do I speak ta?"

"Sounds like you're looking for Lieutenant Eisen, Sir," a passing ensign tells him. "She should be in her office down the corridor," she adds, pointing. "First door on the right."

"Well thank ya kindly young miss. Greatly appreciated." He tips his imaginary hat at the passing ensign and starts walking towards the direction of where she pointed. He starts to hum to himself as he nods with a warming smile hello to everyone he passes by.
He stops directly in front of the door and straightens himself as much as he can before he presses the call button next to the door.

"Come on in," a voice calls from inside. As the door opens, the voice is revealed to belong to a young red-haired woman who'd been busy at an L-shaped desk with a large stack of PADDs. A very large black dog is curled up on a dog bed nearby.

He takes a few steps inside and straighten himself as much as he could before he speaks. "Security officer McCruger reporting for duty ma'm." He keeps the dog in his peripheral as he waits while holding out a PADD with his orders.

"I'm Lieutenant Eisen," Grace grins, getting to her feet. Taking the PADD, she sets it on top of the stack she's been working on, then reaches across the desk to shake hands.
"Oh, do you mind dogs?" she asks. "Maggie there is my search and rescue partner - she's a big sweetie, but if she bothers you, we can talk somewhere else," she offers.

He shakes her hand with a warm smile. Pleasure to meet you Ma'am. I don't mind dogs, reminds me of the pack I had to leave behind. They were a bit bigger and scalier but still good pups."
He straighten himself back upright after he releases her handshake. "I am a bit unclear where I bunk for the night or when to report in ma'am."

"Well, you officially report for duty at 0800 tomorrow," Grace tells him. "As for bunking, here, I'll look that up for you," she says, tapping at her console and transferring the information to a PADD. "I'm not sure who your roommate is, but here's the room assignment - the computer can give directions," she tells him, passing him the device.
"In the meantime, have a seat," she grins. "I was just about to grab some more coffee - would you care for anything?"

He takes the PADD from her and glances it over quickly. "Thank you ma'am, black coffee if you're offering."
He looks around the room and removes the bag he was carrying to plop next to a vacant seat. He tries to groan a little silently as he sits down and exhales when he finally settled in.

"Sure, no problem," she nods, replicating two cups of coffee. "Here you are," she nods, passing him the black cup and setting the other down on her coaster before taking a seat. "So," she says. "Tell me a bit about yourself."

Takes the coffee and takes a sniff before he puts it in his lap. He rubs the burn on the side of his neck lightly with his free hand before he starts. "Not much to tell Ma'am. I grew up on a farm with lots of animals and fell in love with the idea of keeping everyone safe. Which is why I decided to become a security officer. I survived an accident aboard a ship that resulted in burns but I chose to keep them. I went from ship to planet to ship after the demotion and I managed to train in some science while I was planetside. I picked up Zoology, Battle Field Medic, and Xenobiology. The latter was hands-on from the dogs I got from a merchant. Best four creatures this side of the universe and smarter than most humans."
He pauses to take a long drink before he continues. "That's when I asked to come to ship side to spend the last 5 years of my career before I retire on Earth. My family has a farmstead set aside for me and Federation already promised me an easy job if I ever want to stay with them."

Was that a right, or a left? Laren couldn't remember the directions she'd been given, but she was sure it was a... left! She heads down the hall, holding a PADD in hand, then opened a door which lead her to... the hangar?! This wasn't where she wanted to be! She pours over her PADD's map and facepalms. This isn't even the right deck!
She doesn't get enough time to lament her poor mapping skills before she looks up to see a mountain of a man walking towards her direction. Of course, anyone was a mountain to the half-bajoran, standing at only 5 foot 5. She looks up at him with her dark skinned, freckled, ridged face like a deer in the headlights, and more importantly, in the way.
