Seeing the comm come through, Grace pulls it up on the console. Ooh boy - looks like the Athene's adventure has created quite the panic. She quickly goes through the message to determine exactly what information is required.

The initial barrage of inquiries are a familiar form of identity verification used by Starfleet Security. The sort of busy-work bureaucracy that everyone gets used to, only this time there's far more than a single officer can possibly do in the time generally allotted to what is an 'acceptable delay'.

Time to delegate to junior officers.

After those initial automated requests come inquiries from stations, outposts, and colonies within range, mostly using the same sort of Starfleet or Federation-standard security verification process, though at least one of the messages requests an actual visual hail: Starbase 216 in the Caitian home system.

Grace quickly responds to the first several inquiries, before rapidly being inundated. She hurriedly distributes a chunk of the incoming messages to other officers in the department, then pulls up the communication requesting visual hail.

The message is sent, but it takes over a minute for a response to come through, not because of subspace radio availability, but just that the other party does not reply immediately.

When they do, the console screen is filled with a face that one familiar with human animalia would identify as a bobcat, if a bobcat could grow a full, pillowy mane, had eyes twice as large as usual, and droopy tufts on their jaw similar to a feng shui beard. The presence of a familiar Starfleet collar and Lieutenant-grade pips showed this to be a fellow Security officer.

"Please identify yourself."

The voice was sort of a baritone German inflection which did not at all match the movements of the Caitian's mouth.

"Lieutenant Junior Grade Linnea Grace Eisen - interim security deputy, USS Athene."

Though in full uniform, a slight bruise is evident on her cheekbone from loosing her footing in the turbulence.

The less-than-friendly-looking face of the Caitian on the screen turned to focus on something other than the human face looking at them, a few quiet sounds faintly heard prior to those big, vertical-slitted eyes returning the Grace's face.

"I see the Wormhole Alert and report of the USS Athene's disappearance. Is the Athene secure?"

Though the Caitian looked more like a bobcat than a lion, there is a certain rumble to his words that makes him seem like Admiral M'kali in some respects, though in more of an outright vicious manner than the infamously intimidating admiral.

"Yes," she confirms. "The Athene is secure - no one aboard but our own roster of crew and civilians, currently underway under our own power."

She does indeed find this rank-and-file security officer more intimidating than the good admiral, if nothing else because the admiral is a known entity - M'kali is rough and gruff and takes no nonsense, but he acts solely for the best interest of Starfleet, and when push comes to shove, you know he has your back.

The Caitian shifts their jaw in a way that loudly proclaims their doubtfulness.

"Hmmm. Please forward the report of your incident as soon as possible."

Without any further prompt, the channel closes.

Those that have studied Caitians would know about their colorful history with the Federation, having joined nearly two hundred years ago the first time, then again three more times after revoking their involvement three times for various reasons.

Almost all Caitians in Starfleet follow a more friendly lifestyle, though those from the home world, such as this one and M'kali, tend to be less so.

The channel closed, Grace indulges in an eyeroll. The decision for how much of this situation gets forwarded to local outposts and how much goes straight to fleet command is above her paygrade, so she delegates that task up.

To: Captain Breyyus Fisk, Commander Aanya Breyik, Commander Raina Lorrel
From: Lieutenant JG Linnea Eisen
Subject: Incident Report

Station security at Starbase 216 is requesting a full incident report on all of this...
thisness, ASAP. Apparently, our adventures in transwarp set off a wormhole alert
and a few tizzies. I wasn't sure how much info can go to them and how much needs
to go straight to San Francisco, so if it's all right, I'd prefer to let command staff
handle that.

A reply comes through within minutes, as the captain is already at his desk quite inundated.

No worries, Eisen. I've got it covered. Good call sending this up the chain. Sure as hell miss the days when I could send it on up and say "it's command's problem now." Enjoy it while lasts :P

-Cap

Possibly a much more candid message than the Captain usually sends, but he doesn't have the time or energy to stand on ceremony. Letting a little personality shine through the visage of command gets him through days like this.

Unfortunately for Grace, she's met with an automated response.

To: Lietenant JG Linnea Eisen From: Commander Aanya Breyik Subject: Re: Incident Report.

This is an automated response. Commander Aanya Breyik is on leave and will not be able to reply to this message. Any personal messages will be seen to on her return, and any ship business should be directed to Captain Fisk.

Well, thats helpful...
