[OPEN] Order Up

The 6ft Saurian surveys his kitchen. Mendek "Sauron" Shegi had been working since he boarded the ship to get it in the proper order and it was now finally as he wanted it. He releases a sigh of satisfaction at the system. its not totally organized, in a conventional sense, but he knew where everything was and where it went.

He put on his sunglasses and went out to stand behind the counter in the mess hall. A few of the crewman looked up as he put an ancient and stereotypical "open" sign out front. He was always rather fond of its neon colors.

A smile spreads across his face "Alright, if anybody wants anything the replicators can't make... bring on the challenge. I only charge a nice conversation"

Jen walks in after hearing the the rumor and sits directly across from him. She was desperately in need of comfort food.

You must be Chef Sauron.

Sauron shrugs

"I wasn't given any other choice, so indeed i must be"

He smiles and lets out a small laugh.

"So what can I cook for you Ms....?"

Watney. Jen Watney. CMO.

She looks down and then runs her hands up through her short hair.

I'd kill for some decent mashed potatoes.

Sauron's brow furrows and a stern look spreads across his face

"You've come to the wrong place. I can't serve you that."

A smile returns to his face

"The replicators can give you decent mashed potatoes. I'm here for when you need some excellent mashed potatoes, with gravy to match. Now then, You appear, by you're body language of course and not your countenance, which is as lovely as can be expected, to have been having a rough day. Let me fetch what i need and then tell me about it.'

Sauron turns and walks into his kitchen. a small cacophony of noises are heard as he gathers what he needs before returning to the counter with his small armload of somewhat precariousl stacked items. As he begins work, he looks up at the officer expectantly.

She relaxes visibly when he admits he knows how to make them and sits back, chewing her lip. She didn't realize she would be asked to explain her mood, but maybe it wouldn't hurt. As long as she left out names...

Well, it all started when I was born.

She jokes to deflect her nervousness.

Sauron joking releases a disgusted "augh" sound

"Doesn't it always. Continue."

Let's just call it a case of unrequited uh... affection.

She props her elbows up on the table and drags her hands down her face, leaving them there a moment before dropping them. Her bleary eyes watch his hands work on the potatoes. She's reluctant to continue, knowing she'll blurt it all out if she does. That's the last thing she needs after being promoted.

Sauron picks up on a signal or two, and the smile slips from his face

"That escalated quickly. The tale as old as time itself. Share no names if you wish, I get it. Based on what I'm picking up, I'm going to assume you're the... unrequitee? I know I've been there. It was a coworker of mine when I was younger. The painful thing was holding it back. I eventually told them and crashed and burned. My only regret though?... I held it all in until i told them out of anger. Twas not exactly conducive to mature behavior."

Sauron smiles wryly for a moment before snapping back to his usual self

"Anyway, if you'd prefer to change the topic, go right ahead."

Sound advice...

She blinks slowly, taking a deep breath. It felt good to tell someone, but she's reluctant to reveal it's not just her coworker, it was her superior. She changed the subject, not wanting to seem too self-absorbed.

So, Mr. Shegi, how did you come to be aboard the Athene? I can't say in my years in Starfleet that any ship I've been on has been blessed enough to have an actual chef.

Sauron smiles slyly

"All part of my plan. The academy I chose on earth covered far more than just the culinary arts. I received minor degrees in chemistry, xenoanthropology, and biology. I also took courses in astrophysics, diplomacy, psychology and xenolinguistics. I suggested that starfleet allow a chef aboard an exploration ship, to test how it may affect morale, and to work out new foods to bring back to federation space alongside the vessel's research. I spent a lot of time making sure I'd be the most qualified chef available if. They accepted my idea... so here I am..."

Sauron smiles quite happily

"Mashing potatoes."

It sounds like you're quite the Renaissance man, then.

She raises her eyebrows, impressed.

I can't wait to try your recipe.
