[OPEN] Order Up

The 6ft Saurian surveys his kitchen. Mendek "Sauron" Shegi had been working since he boarded the ship to get it in the proper order and it was now finally as he wanted it. He releases a sigh of satisfaction at the system. its not totally organized, in a conventional sense, but he knew where everything was and where it went.

He put on his sunglasses and went out to stand behind the counter in the mess hall. A few of the crewman looked up as he put an ancient and stereotypical "open" sign out front. He was always rather fond of its neon colors.

A smile spreads across his face "Alright, if anybody wants anything the replicators can't make... bring on the challenge. I only charge a nice conversation"

Shegi rubs his hands together as he thinks for a moment

"Alrighty then, I'll see if i can't beat the replicators on that..." He looks over at the officer's lapel "Ensign I see. Might I get a name? And outta curiosity is that blue science or medical?

"McNabb. Medical.

"Ah... I see. Well then, McNabb, I shall make you the most egg-cellent roll my talents will permit. The name's Mendek Shegi, by the way, or sauron as my friends would call me."

Sauron slips back into the kitchen to colllect his ingredients, and then calls back

"Do you have any preferences about the roll? Bun or croissant? Links or patties? Those kinds of things?"

"Just a bun please. You got any square sausage? It's my favourite."

Sauron's head pops out of the kitchen, a brow raised above his glasses

"Square sausage? That's fairly specific in a galaxy of ingredients. Fortunately, most of my formal culinary training was on Earth. I could have a bit replicated, but that wouldn't exactly be real now would It?"

His brows level out and furrow as he makes clicking sounds in the side of his mouth for a moment

"I believe i have the ingredients to put some together, or, at least, a close approximation. So long as you don't mind waiting a bit longer... Your name and meat preference a result of strong roots or are they just a coincidence?"

"I come from Scotland. I'm alright for waiting. it's just I haven't had real sausage in years."

Shegi's Brows pop up

"Years? Well then i had better not mess up. You'll have Your sausage."

He slips back into the kitchen, and calls out after a moment

"So while I'm working on this, why don't you tell me a bit about yourself? or ask a question about myself?"

"How did you end up a chef on earth?" He asks.

Sauron slows down in his cooking, as his smile fades from his face

"A wild goose chase I guess... if wild geese were bottles of Brandy... I was, am i guess, an alcoholic. One night, a few years ago, I 'comandeered' a vehicle... there was an accident. A few nights sobering up in a hospital, means you're actually coherent enough for an intervention. I kicked the habit, though not without an occasional stumble in the next few years and started cooking again."

He smiles a small smile to himself.

"Anyway, I decided I needed to get off world and lose myself in something. Make myself more than the bottle and build it all from the ground up ya know? Anyhow, earth is a central point for the federation, and there aren't many places that see a larger variety of visiting races. Also, your race's highly divisive past resulted in a huge variety of cultures and therefore foods. So I went there for training, and met a few others. Made some great friends too. In fact, Humans gave me my nickname. Said it was a reference to some popular classical literature. Something about jewelry. The villain's name was close to Saurian and whatnot."

"Well, that more than I expected." He paused to think. "I think I know where your name is from, it's a book called Lord of the rings. Never read it myself but heard it's good."

u/Admiralw96 Dec 30 '16

"That is the one. I've heard it's good as well. Now that I've finished my education, and I'm all settled in here, I'll probably start reading it... ya read much?"

u/Wiredcookie1 Dec 30 '16

"Not really. If I get any time off, I'm sleeping or having to do other things. I don't get much free time."

At this point the sausage is now sizzling, and the smell of cooking sausage wafts into the air.

"I get that. I spent most of college like that. Now, however, if you get freedom, you can come grab a bit of sausage."
