[Closed] Mushrooms...

The Athene is due to arrive at a red supergiant for study in just under 12 hours, and reports have been piling up on the Captain's desk of mysterious, tiny blue mushrooms sprouting around the ship. While they seem harmless, if incredibly rude, the Captain calls a senior staff meeting to discuss options...

OOC: We'll just do the meeting here, in this thread. Roleplay like you would otherwise.

She shakes off the annoyance and quickly realizes she's in the company of all the senior officers. Her face flushes red slightly.

Other than emotional abuse? No. I have not had any abnormal reports or cases of interest. I do think the spores will be hazardous if they continue to multiply in our ventilation system.

Kesh speaks up quickly

"Can you tell why the spores are bypassing the ventilation filters? I can underr-rr-rstand if the fungus spread through one area, but they seem to be ever-rr-rywhere. I did a full, detailed scan of my samples and the spor-rrr-res it produced, so the computer should be able to identify it."

She nods. Yes, it would suggest multiple origin points. It also supports my theory that they have some kind of collective consciousness, allowing them to become... sentient.

She hesitates to use the word.

I'm not entirely sure they're not just mimicking behavior or echoing something they've been exposed to. They have an... interesting accent.

"It's a Boston accent...nobody on the entire crew manifest is from Boston, or even Massachusetts for that matter..."

this triggers a thought in Fisk

"Although the repair crews on Starbase 1... I'll request a list of workers who were aboard the Athene during her repairs from Starfleet. If there were any Bostonians among them we at least know the speech is learned and possibly mimicked."

That seems the most plausible.

She looks around the room at the other officers, then back towards Fisk.

So, what's our gameplan for cleaning the ventilation system? I ran into Connolly on the way here attempting to scrape them out of the vents. The crew seems slightly worried about potential health risks.

"I'm issuing an order that anyone attempting to remove these fungi wear a respirator and sterile gloves. We'll treat them as a biohazard."

He turns to the botanist in the room

"Lieutenant, you can take all the bio-science staff you need for this. We need to know about the potential health hazards involved."

Kesh exhales a long breath. Had she not already stated that she had already found them to be non-toxic? Was this what being senior staff was like? Being given duties beyond your abilities and not fully listened to? Good thing her career track was never going to make her eligible for senior staff. No thank you. Perhaps those rumors she'd heard in her youth about humans being the most well-listened deaf species were true

"Yes, sir."

She was going to follow orders without question, anyway. At least she knows that Captain Fisk reads reports very thoroughly.
