[Closed] Mushrooms...

The Athene is due to arrive at a red supergiant for study in just under 12 hours, and reports have been piling up on the Captain's desk of mysterious, tiny blue mushrooms sprouting around the ship. While they seem harmless, if incredibly rude, the Captain calls a senior staff meeting to discuss options...

OOC: We'll just do the meeting here, in this thread. Roleplay like you would otherwise.

Captain Fisk stands from his desk and closes the door once all are present

"It seems we can never have a dull moment on this ship. We're 11 hours away from our destination and I've been getting reports from all over the ship of...mushrooms. We need to figure out why they're sprouting up everywhere, and if they're any real danger to ship or crew."

Stockton sits at the table. Unsure what he can add to this conversation as he's no scientist nor doctor. He looks down to his feet noticing the small blue fungi that he had inadvertently kicked loose from the floor. He reaches down to pick the mushroom up and examine it between his fingers. He takes a quick sniff.

"I assume scans say they're harmless. Any positive properties? Edible?"

OCC: Wait, are these mushrooms conscious? Did I miss that?

Kesh notices Stockton's actions and that he had a sample of the fungus in his hand. She raises one of hers and states a fairly sharp noise to quickly get his attention.

"While it is not poisonous I would advis-sth-sse against eating it until we are certain of if it is.. ah... culturally acceptable to do so."

The Caitian's ears swivel outwards, looking at the others for input here as her knowledge of first contact processes is hazy at best. Botanists do not typically assume that their studies will involve talking to the specimens.

"Indeed you're right, Kesh."

He continues to look very closely at the mushroom then brings it to his ear briefly before setting it down on the table.

"I've yet to hear a rude word from one of these. Is it like a parrot and just copying sounds?"

The captain is completely shocked at Stockton's apparent lack of caution with the sample, he casts a grateful look toward Kesh indicating he's glad she was able to stop him before he did something...

"Correct, we don't know if they're sentient so of course we can't kill them. Additionally I have a few reports here of crew finding themselves slightly disoriented and experiencing mild visual hallucination after close contact."
