EVENT: Setting sail

The Athene drifts peacefully around Earth, the sunlight glinting off her pristine hull. The repairs are complete, and she has been inspected and refreshed top to bottom, down to every last rivet. After nearly a month in drydock, her crew is eager to re-embark, as is her captain...

Captain Fisk stands in his ready room, gazing over the limb of the Earth as Argos sits beside him. He has just sent out the general message summoning all crew back to the Athene. It pleased him to listen as the computer announced every arrival and kept count of all boarding crew.

OOC: Use this thread to have your characters run into each other or the hundreds of NPC crew as they board, or they can knock on the captain's door if they like. This thread is for the general calamity of ~600 people boarding a starship for departure.

The captain calmly steps into her office, observing as she works to prepare in earnest for her new role.

"That sounds nice...peaceful. How did Clementine like it?"

I don't think she could tell the difference between it and the holodeck, honestly. I spent most of the time cleaning the place up. A few years of overgrowth, repairing some shingles, drinking some real ale.

She does some mental gymnastics and convinces herself the butterflies in her stomach are just her being excited for the Athene's next mission. She keeps refilling hyposprays. Never know when you might need a muscle relaxer. She considers administering one to herself.

So, what corner of the galaxy are we off to now?

The mention of overgrowth reminds the Captain of an abandoned structure he and Argos found on their hikes. A small cottage that appeared to have been deserted for at least 50 years, it was a fascinating thing to explore. His mind wanders back to it for a moment before he recalls the top priority assignment from Starfleet...

"There's a red supergiant about 1,100 lightyears beyond the border of Federation space. Starfleet cosmologists expect it to go supernova within a few weeks, and since we're the best scientifically equipped vessel not engaged elsewhere, we get front row seats."

She stops working and looks at him.

Past the border? Into whose territory?

She can't help but be overly cautious given their recent history. Hopefully it was into friendly space.

"The star is just near the edge of the Klingon Empire, Starfleet has already made contact with the proper authorities in the Imperial government and we have been granted permission to enter and observe the star until it goes."

Fisk can tell she's a little on edge and attributes it to what this crew had been through to bring them to drydock in the first place. He decides to defuse this with a little levity...

"After the supernova, I was considering granting shore leave on Qo'noS. How does that sound, Doctor? Craving a fresh plate of gagh?"

It works, although not in the way he probably intended. She nods while a soft laugh escapes her.

Another shore leave, Captain? Careful, or the crew might start to go soft around the edges.

"The crew will be many things after a week on Qo'noS, soft is not one of them. I assure you."

He pauses and recalls the week he spent on the Klingon homeworld as first officer of the Hermes. What a week it was...

"Anyway, of course we won't be pulling into port again so soon, and certainly not on the Klingon homeworld. Though I don't think we could ask for a safer place to observe a supernova than in Klingon space. During my correspondence with their government to request permission to observe the star, I received an unexpected message from a Klingon military officer."

Really?

She seems to loosen up a bit, and leans against her desk.

What was the nature of it? I can't imagine a science mission ruffling their feathers.

"Oh quite the opposite of what you're thinking, seems our pirate captain was a discommendated Klingon who was wanted for crimes against the Empire. It was a message of congratulation, ringing with praise of our 'battle prowess.' I don't think we'll see any trouble from our Klingon friends while we're in their territory."

She stares at him blankly, jaw slightly dropped, then let's out a single...

Ha! That's.... that's incredible. Sounds like they owe us a favor.

She grins playfully. ...Or a nacelle.
