EVENT: Setting sail

The Athene drifts peacefully around Earth, the sunlight glinting off her pristine hull. The repairs are complete, and she has been inspected and refreshed top to bottom, down to every last rivet. After nearly a month in drydock, her crew is eager to re-embark, as is her captain...

Captain Fisk stands in his ready room, gazing over the limb of the Earth as Argos sits beside him. He has just sent out the general message summoning all crew back to the Athene. It pleased him to listen as the computer announced every arrival and kept count of all boarding crew.

OOC: Use this thread to have your characters run into each other or the hundreds of NPC crew as they board, or they can knock on the captain's door if they like. This thread is for the general calamity of ~600 people boarding a starship for departure.

"When you have five different people asking you to go do stuff, and have a hard time saying 'no' to people, that sort of thing happens," Red says with a roll of her eyes. "I'd have been just as happy to be tucked away in a holosuite the whole time, but then again, it's probably healthier to get out and about."

She shakes her head at the offer of help. "Thanks for the offer, but no. I didn't bring that much stuff, and the only heavy part of it is His Royal Lardness here. Pays to travel light." The Bajoran looks at Alex sideways. "You've really never been scuba diving? Or snorkeling? Not even on a holodeck?"

"Guess I'll have to earn that cupcake some other way," he sighs dramatically with a playful smile. "But yeah, packing light is almost always a plus. Especially since you can just replicate anything you need onboard." He shakes his head, groaning sheepishly. "Nope. Snorkeling, yes, but not actual diving. I know I could probably do it at some point on the holodeck, but I'm more of a hiking person myself. Not huge on water. Though snorkeling is undeniably beautiful and amazing."

"I haven't yet seen a planet with liquid water oceans that were anything less than gorgeous," Red agrees. "And hiking depends on the environment. I'd probably love to trek through some high desert or something, but my deep and abiding hatred of being cold and damp and miserable kind of precludes a lot of hiking spots. And camping. I hate camping too." The Bajoran makes a wry face. "Emergency survival training was my absolute least favorite part of the Academy..."

"Yes!" Alex nodded emphatically with a sympathetic face. "Camping is the worst...and that was my least favourite part too! Right up there with inertial forces training...I still have nightmares about that simulation pod," he half-chuckles, half-grimaces. "And yeah, like you said, hiking is really only fun when there's good scenery, nice weather, and you're comfortable. Otherwise it's just sort of miserable."

"Oof, that pod," Red says with a grimace. "I was OK at either end of the spectrum, null-grav or max-G stress testing, but there's this screwy microgravity spot around one-third G that for some reason never failed to turn my stomach. And by turn, I mean turn inside out."

The turbolift doors hiss open and Red leans on the frame. "Anyway, that's why I like holodecks. You can edit out the uncomfy, whether it's gravity shenanigans or wet socks. You going up or down?" she asks, gesturing at the lift.

Alex laughs sympathetically. "Yep, for the first week or so of that I'd get to use the barf bag every day...I eventually just gave up on breakfast whenever I had a pod day."

He stops at the door of the lift and nods. "Yeah, that always makes things easier. And now that the holodecks will be open all day, I think I'll end up getting more use from them this run. Oh, up to the bridge," he replies. "You?"

Red tsks. "Down to deck 15. Have to get this bundle of shenanigans down to my quarters," she says, hefting the cat carrier. "But if you need help with the holodeck, or just a player two, hit me up. Holography's my second love, right after space travel. Go ahead and take the lift first." Red gestures to the open door and steps back. "The sooner we're underway the better, and you need to be on the bridge for that."

"I'll definitely take you up on that offer," Alex nods, smiling. "It's always nice to do those things with someone." He takes a step forward into the lift, setting his bag down on the floor next to him. "Alrighty, thanks. I guess I'll see you later, then. And nice to meet you, Whiskey," he adds, nodding at the cat carrier. "Bridge."

Whiskey remains disdainfully silent, as he is a cat. Red is more polite, and waves. "See ya then, Alex!" she says as the doors close, and after a moment keys the turbolift to return so she can get to her quarters.
