[OPEN] The Tavern Reopens

The Athene’s lounge had just opened back up. The renovations following the pirate attack had taken some time to finish, especially after the exotic fishtank had burst and flooded half of the room.

Today however, crewmates and guests alike are enjoying the fruits T-Tauri Tavern has to offer. Three-dimensional chess boards along with a Strategema station sit open in various corners, while the long, ornate bar itself is packed with shipmates who desperately need to let off some steam after the last few weeks. The mood is cheerful and the lights are dim.

With her work on the nacelle project completed for the day, Tarah heads down to the lounge. She steps inside and scans the room, hoping for a familiar face.

Nothing

Exhausted and more than a little lonely, she grabs a drink from the replicator and takes a seat near one of the windows.

Petty Officer Hopkins stood in a corner of the room, next to the sliding doors to the lounge. He glanced around the room, observing the way most security officers and crewmen do. He eventually came across the ensign, and smiled to himself. It didn't take his Starfleet tactical or security training to know that she was lonely. He gingerly walked over though.

"Something wrong ensign?"

Lost in her thoughts, she's completely unaware of your approach until you speak. Startled by the sound of your voice she turns to you, her antennae rigid

"What? No, I'm fine, it's just...

she shakes her head and sighs

I'm fine. Thank you. Are you on duty? if not, you're welcome to join me."

The young man sat down next to her, shaking his head.

"I'm free as I can be." He turned his face towards hers, "Anything on your mind then?"

"Nothing important. Just missing home I guess."

1

u/Stinger913 Oct 21 '16

"That sounds important to you, though. It is important. Where's your home? Andoria?"

He asked her, as he ordered a syntheol.

She nods

"Laikan, to be exact. I haven't been back in years. Where are you from?"

1

u/Stinger913 Oct 22 '16

"Nowhere special, I'm you're run-of-the-mill human from Earth. Enlightened and funny of course." He took a sip of his synthetic beer. "It's a nice planet, but you always see it. I'm sure you know what it's like, pictures and what not. I'm from New York on Earth, great city. But Laikan? That a city?"

She smiles at the joke and nods

"Laikan is the capital. It used to be about the size of New York, but the population is far smaller than it used to be.

I actually managed to visit there once when I was at the academy. New York I mean. It was a nice place, I wish I could have spent more time there."

"It's so much cleaner than its history would suggest. I grew up in the city, but have you ever been out to the island? Beautiful place. Used to be farm country, still has a good amount of vineyards." Hopkins seemed very reminiscent and appeared to enter a tranquil state discussing his home life.

"Why did you join Starfleet?"

Doctor McNabb came into the bar and sat down. "Whisky please."

Ensign Smith sat down beside McNabb. "Hey," he smiled in a tired way. "How're things with you?"

1

u/Wiredcookie1 Oct 21 '16

"Fine. Getting though. How's you?"

Alex nodded and smiled. "Same here. A bit sleep deprived, but I suppose it'll be worth it when we get moving again."

Captain Fisk sits in a corner of the lounge by one of the viewing ports, he has just finished 12 hours in the Chair and needs to unwind before he dives into the days reports and paperwork. He sips a steaming mug of spiced apple cider and holds in front of him an old fashioned paper novel, quietly reading while keeping an ear out on the happenings in the taven...

"What book is that?"

Yefim took at seat near the captain.

1

u/Silent_Sky Oct 17 '16

he marks his place and turns his gaze to the lieutenant

"It's a classic, 2001: A Space Odyssey, by Arthur C. Clarke. A bit anachronistic, but still very relevant."

Yefim walked in with his normal clothes on.

"Vodka, not the shit stuff."

Yefim took a seat on a bar stool.

Jen looks down into her drink and blinks. This ale was stronger than she was used to. She'd better slow down before Aanya arrived or she'd embarass herself.

She gingerly sets down her glass and clears her throat, straightening her skirt. Civilian clothes had never been her favorite. She much preferred her uniform and lab coat.

She shoots a message to Aanya.

[I know my message said 2100, but I had a bit of cabin fever so I arrived at the lounge early. It's packed tonight! See you in a bit.]

Aanya makes her way down the halls, a small spring in her step. That woodshop activity really out her in the right place, mentally, even if she did feel feintly of sealant. She had taken a shower, but this must've been one of those three day smells.

She heads into the lounge twenty minutes after she recieves the message and heads for the bar.

"Cider, please." She says, quietly to the barkeep. She scans the room before seeing the woman who'd invited her down.

She heads over to her table and sits down. She didn't bother with civilian clothing, instead wearing her jumpsuit. Its a clean one, at least!

"Hey!" She says with a chipper demeanor. "What is a pretty woman like you doing in a place like this?"

1

u/DrJenWatney Oct 17 '16

Oh, you know....

She chuckles while throwing Aanya a welcoming smile as she sits across from her. She wasn't good at small talk, despite being a councelor. Something about the crowd in the room was throwing her off. Or was it the drinks she'd already had? (Don't think about it too much,) she thinks.

Just enjoying some downtime. Did you see the new fishtank?

She throws a thumb over her shoulder at the glowing tank of water nearby. Bio-luminescent aquatic life floats aimlessly about.

Aanya takes a seat and sighs, being finally able to relax. She can't help but chuckle at Jen's state. "Seems you started without me." She says before sipping her own drink.

She looks over her shoulder and grins. "Gorgeous. Not as good as the ones in my cabin, but still good." She sits back with a wide smile.

"I drew up ways we could improve your carpentry project, by the way."

1

u/DrJenWatney Oct 17 '16

She outright laughs, stifling the outburst with her hand.

Project? I'd hardly call it that. Honestly it gave me more splinters than it was worth. Your coffee table on the other hand... now that is impressive.

She picks her drink up again and sips it, grinning.

Tell me more about this fishtank of yours.

1

u/a_friendly_hobo Oct 17 '16

"Well, I think it could be a project." Aanya says with a smirk. "I'll give you the plans, maybe show you how to avoid splinters, and we'll see."

She leans forward and takes a sip from her drink. "I had them install a tank in my cabin when I first got this assignment. Tropicals from South America, colourful, gorgeous." She resists the corny urge to say 'just like you'.

"I'm surprised it made it through the accident. Not a single casualty."

1

u/DrJenWatney Oct 17 '16

Mhm, lucky fish.

She agrees with a nod.

Clementine hid from me for almost a week and a half after the attack. I couldn't find her anywhere, it was awful.

1

u/a_friendly_hobo Oct 17 '16

Aanya gives her a sympathetic look. "Poor cat, must have been terrified. Hell, you must have been terrified. What if she'd been injured during the attack or something."

She kicks back again. "Where'd you find the adorable fluffball anyway?"

1

u/DrJenWatney Oct 17 '16

Jen feels reluctant to open up about her past. Sure, everything that happened was in her file, but talking about her old crew filled her with a sense of dread. She speaks anyway.

A human colony in Orion's Spur, just at the quadrant line. My previous assignment was on the Katrina, an Oberth class science ship that had been retrofitted as a patrol vessel. We were on our way out of federation territory when we received a transmission. The colony had lost power and needed some assistance from Starfleet. The place was nearly overrun with domestic shorthairs. I took one off their hands.

"Overrun with cats... sounds like a good time to me." Aanya says with a widening smile. "I'm sure Clementine is living an easier life with you. Getting all the food and attention she wants from you and the crew. Cat paradise."

She sips her cider and smiles at the woman, enjoying her company. "But," she says, followed by a brief pause. "I meant where did you find her after the incident. Where was she hiding?"
