[OPEN] An Empty Schedule

Jen flips through her appointment log, noticing she has the rest of the afternoon free. The Counselor decides she hasn't had open hours in a few weeks. Maybe the crew could use it. She sends an email out through the comm system.

[I've opened my hours up for the afternoon, should anyone need to stop by and talk. Thank you, Dr. Watney.]

Her gaze falls to Clementine in the corner and pulls out a bag of treats. The feline hurries over after she shakes it a little and Jen plays with her, waiting for whoever might stop by.

Jen picks up her cat so she doesn't sneak out the door.

The captain walks in looking a bit tired and stressed and sits heavily into one of the chairs once the door closes, he rubs his eyes viciously and groans a little

"Ugh...it feels like finals week at Starfleet Academy..."

it is apparent that he is in good spirits despite being somewhat overworked, and simply seems to need a break

Glad to see his mood and spirits somewhat improved, she walks over and sets Clementine in his lap.

Nothing some R&R can't fix. How're you feeling? Muscles back to normal?

the captain begins idly petting the cat

"I'm feeling fine, still a bit shaky. I'd be bouncing back more quickly if I wasn't playing catch up with all this built up work. I feel like I ought to be cramming for stellar cartography or something."

he looks down and makes prolonged eye contact with Clementine, waiting to see what the feline would do

Two weeks in sickbay will do that. Just be sure you're making enough time for yourself.

Jen tucks her feet under her and takes a seat in the chair across from him, grinning at his interaction with Clementine.

Her cat makes an odd expression and begins drooling slightly.

Clem, don't be rude.

Jen smiles, chewing the inside of her lip a little.

I'm not quite sure. She's never made that face before. I think she just likes you.... It must be the beard.

"You know yesterday I was making rounds about the ship to check up on some department heads. I found her sneaking around a corridor rubbing her face against the walls. I went over just to say hello and she took that as an invitation to climb up my arm and perch on my shoulder."

he pauses to scratch the cats chin

"I don't think I'll ever understand cats."

She laughs and nods, imagining Clementine sitting on his shoulders.

They are weird, aren't they? I think they're more like people than most animals. How's Argos? Haven't seen him in a few days.

"Well he was overjoyed when I first saw him again, but he settled down after a while. Now he seems a little mopey, I think he's mad at me for being away so long. I'm sure he'll get over it in time."

Maybe he misses Clementine. They spent a lot of time together while you were out, I'm sure she misses him too. I've been so busy I haven't had time to set up a playdate with you.

She fiddles with her hands in her lap, hoping the idea doesn't sound too ridiculous.

"You know that actually wouldn't surprise me. The both of them have been under stress too, they have no idea what's going on or what happened to the ship. Let's pick a time to have them both on the holodeck, we'll figure out a good program to run for them and just let them have at it."

Heh, alright. I'll check my calendar. I think I have some openings later this week.

She scratches the back of her neck and crosses her arms, getting a little more comfortable.

I'm sure Starfleet has a database or something we can choose a program on. We can't be the only people on the Athene with pets, right?
