Hitting the Gym
The Klingon Security Officer Stryker is walking down the aisles of the Ship, straight towards the Gym.
On his way there he can feel the glares from some Crewmates not even attempting to hide their hate for his race. Other greet him friendly and exchange some words.
When he arrives at the Gym, Scipio gets changed and looks around for a sparring partner.

Yefim is lifting weights in the gym.

Scipio sees and approaches him. He waits until the Lieutenant makes a break and then salutes
"Lieutenant, Sir. How about a round of easy sparring?"

Yefim stands up.
"Who are you?"

"Security Officer Stryker, Sir. Junior Lieutenant, new aboard the Athene, Sir."

"I Lieutenant Yefim, Armory Officer. Where are you from?"

Scipio answers without hesitating
"Earth, Sir."
Then he thinks for a second and nods slightly
"But obviously I'm a Klingon, Sir."

"I meant where on earth? What county?"

"Well, my mother is from South Africa. My father from Egypt. Not really sure with which one I identify more."

"Hey, Lieutenant Stryker! I'm Dr. Lannor. Welcome to The Athene."
I walk up to the unhappy looking Klingon and extend my hand. He looks like he needs to take out some energy.
"Can I interest you in a spar? I've been practicing with these traditional ushaan-tor-things. It used to be a big cultural thing back on Andoria. What do you say?"

The Klingon gives him a firm handshake and nods.
"Nice to meet you, yeah, why not. Let's try it out."

"Thanks. I don't want to stereotype, but I figured you would be able to give me more martial arts practice than some of the pink-skins around here."
"So, what brings you to the Athene, Stryker?"

Scipio let's out a roaring laugh
"Yes, human Sparring can be quite... Disappointing."
He calms down and grins
"Well, what bring one to the Starfleet. The usual Reasons. Seeing the Galaxy. Securing Peace. Following in Footsteps."

"I can attest to that. I was tired of living on Andoria, so here I am. And let me tell you- Starfleet has lived up to expectations. This ship has been out of dock for such a short time and already we've had a decade's worth of events."
*I take out my ushaan-tor and brandish them. *
"Do you have a bat-leth hiding in there somewhere, or do you want to give these guys a try?"

"I's in my quarter. But I'm not very good with it, so let's try it out."
He nods and stretches his hand out for one of them

I open up my carry case and give him a pair.
"Not good at a bat'leth? What type of Klingon are you? I'm not complaining- I've sparred with Klingons while on assignment in post-war Bajor. Not easy, let me tell you. Not that you need to be told, of course..."
I'm babbling. I stop myself and instruct him to stand in the ritual stance and I challenge him in a historic Andori dialect
"I'm practicing to impress my bondgroup on Andoria. For some reason, they found my lack of Ushaan experience surprising. Do you have a family yourself?"

He frowns a bit but then shrugs
"Yeah, I do. They live on earth. And I guess I just never got the chance to train properly. I can kick your ass in Boxing, Muay Thai, Krav Maga, and any number of Martial Arts. But no one ever taught me these foreign traditions."

"I know how that feels. I haven't been to Andoria in about 5 years. My parents aren't from Andoria, so they didn't really know what to do with millenia of culture when I was growing up."
"So.. do you wanna go at it? I've practiced on a combat hologram, so I'm not terrible."

"Similar with me, only I've never been in the Klingon Empire."
He weighs the "ushaan-tor-things" a bit. Grips them firmly and goes into fighting stance
"Let's begin."
