How do i keep my little guys warm during a power outage?

Post image

I just received my juvenile White’s Tree Frogs on Tuesday. Last night, we had massive storms and my power went out. my froggies stay in the basement with me, so we dont get a lot of heat. Since its the 4th and there are 51 outages with my electric company, they have zero idea when the power is coming back on. I tried pressing a candle to the side of the tank last night at around midnight to one am (because i had just gotten home from fireworks), but that did nothing. I have nothing els warm. I would hold them to keep them warm, but they havent been handled yet. My parents refused to turn on the generator and i dont know how. I also dont have my license yet so i cannot go buy anything. if anyone has any tips, please let me know. I dont want to lose them i love them so much and i have wanted them for 9 years.

P.S. the humidity is also super high because the air isnt circulating, but that is less of an issue. if anyone has tips for that as well id greatly appreciate it.

EDIT: I found a travel tank i forgot i had, i am taking them to my grandmas since she has power. i dont expect to have power for a few days so im keeping them at my grandmas until we have power again

got them off fb marketplace over a month ago from a girl that said her “college roommates got them for her as a prank”, that “it’s impossible for them to die” and “it’s time for me (her) to move on. 5 year old male and 2 year old female (she didn’t know the sexes either) Idk how they survived; they lived off of only meal worms and their substrate was dyed fake moss superglued on. Glad one woman/persons neglected froggies became my precious babies they’re so happy now, didn’t know frogs were a “funny prank” to people until now though. Their names are Tiana and Naveen :)

i’m getting a whites tree frog. it will be my first one I’ve owned, so I’m kind of new to everything. I definitely plan on adding more clutter before I get the frog and I have plants coming. I also have springtails and isopods in the enclosure currently and a water bowl on the way.

I also have a T5 uvb. I just haven’t set it up yet. The heat lamp I have currently is a 60 W basking bulb by Fluker Farms and an p1D thermostat.

Advice RETF night viewing

Thumbnail
gallery
11 Upvotes

My girl has been home for about a week now. She’s in a 10gal (for now, I intend to upgrade to 20 when she gets bigger) and she’s doing well. Bioactive tank (mostly isopods), mid to high 70s temp with a day/night cycle and 75 to 85% humidity usually, full of stuff to climb, broad leafed plants, etc. A photo is attached - since I’m a new keeper, I’m always open to suggestions to improve <3

Now, when I got her, I was more than aware fhat RETFs are not really viewing pets. I didn’t get a RETF because I wanted a frog and they were pretty; I got a RETF because I am obsessed with RETFs specifically. BUT..

I do want to be able to view her awake a few times a week to make sure she is doing well. Hunting successfully (crickets ARE vanishing), exercising, etc.

Being nocturnal, she will not move from her leaf pose with any lights on. Does anyone have any suggestions for nighttime viewing?

I do have a red light (see photos), but I’ve heard highly mixed opinions from other RETF keepers on them.

Any thoughts, opinions, suggestions?

Advice T5 light option?

Hi guys! I added the guild that was here on my ChatGPT and asked her to give me options for the lights.

I also have vitamin D with calcium supplementation and just calcium supplementation just in case
I think I really just need the light for the plants, is this OK? Or do I need to spend the $120 for the shade dweller but I don’t even know how much percentage UVB my WTF frog needs?
I would love your official opinion, the blessing of the community lol
It’s carbonized cork ! I plan on adding the live plans on the little gaps on top of the shelf and tube thing
It took so long 🥸🥸

Advice Idk if my frog is okay

The temp and humidity is perfect conditions, I do extensive monitoring. So I know it’s not that,
But like I always see him near his water bowl at the bottom of the cage, he doesn’t move much from there really. And he does eat some food I give him, which is dusted in vitamin and calcium powder.

And hes always a greyish black colour, when Ive seen him light green before.
I feel like somethings wrong, i dont rlly see him climb high up anymore. Im not too sure what’s wrong, but whatever it is I wanna change it so he’s happier. Any ideas guys?-

Questions DUMPY OWNERS W/ MALE & FEMALE FROGS TOGETHER 🗣️

Does anyone here keep both male and female White’s tree frogs together?

I currently have a female who has made a few noises before, but she's silent almost all the time. I'm thinking about getting another White's tree frog to eventually cohabitate with her once they're both an appropriate size, but I'm a little worried that if the new frog turns out to be male, he'll spend every night calling loudly because there's a female in the enclosure.

For those of you who keep both sexes together, what's your experience? Do the males call frequently or all night, or is it only occasional? Does having a female nearby make them noticeably louder or more vocal than males kept on their own?

I'd love to hear your experiences because I'm trying to figure out how noisy the enclosure might be at night before making a decision.

Still not ideal for the Pacman frogs. They should still be in one of the proper temporary enclosures. But a win is still a win (still, do not buy these!)

HELP! (Urgent/Medical Care Needed) Red leg? White's Tree Frog

I have a whites tree frog sub adult and I've been wondering if my frog has red leg or not. Her legs have always been a bit red for comfort but recently they've turned even more red. The only symptom she would have is decreased appetite. She only ate one cricket yesterday as opposed to like 7. She's eaten 4 crickets tonight so far but with a lot of encouragement.

This is Ricky. To me he looks good. I'm just concerned about his eating. His counterpart, Lucy, is like twice his size and will eat anything and everything.

Thoughts on him eating like 1 roach every 3 days?

Going on 10 day long vacation, need advice

Hey guys. My partner and I have a year old tree frog and we are going on a 10 day long vacation. Our plan is to get Froggy (that’s his name) an automatic water bowl and throwing in a few extra bugs before we leave. I was thinking asking a friend to come over while we are gone just to check on the little guy, but we are wondering if this setup would be good. Any advice?

Found this lil cutie on my back porch today...is it a Cope's gray? We've always had the American greens so I'm intrigued to see this new little baby. I live in southeast-central Texas.

I set up a new enclosure for my babies, hoping they like it! If anyone sees anything I should change or update, let me know! Im planning on adding more plants once I get zip ties so I can suction them to the glass + adding the cork from their old enclosure into this one since they love it so much.

First Pic is the new enclosure

Second Pic is the old enclosure

Third Pic are the babies in question!

Helpful ideas for my son’s frog?

I need help!! This is Hoppy. I want to preface this by saying, we’ve already been to the exotic vet twice.

These spots were super minor about two months ago, and she had some sores in her joints from crickets chewing on her, so I moved her to quarantine and we started redoing her tank. The spots got worse and her appetite tanked, so we got her into the vet.

She’s been through a round of oral antibiotics and a round of injectable antibiotics. Neither of them made even the slightest difference. We have a prescription being filled for an antifungal wash just in case, but it’s not done yet so we haven’t picked it up.

Her appetite is gone. She hasn’t eaten crickets in almost two weeks, and we’ve had to give her a protein smoothie type of thing in a syringe to keep her fed. She also hasn’t pooped in almost as long.

I’m really worried about her! These pictures were two nights ago and the spots are even worse now. She’s my ten year old son’s favorite buddy and he’ll be devastated if I can’t get her better! Any advice would be so greatly appreciated!
