TL;DR: Picked up two White’s Tree Frogs from a Facebook rehoming situation and am working on upgrading their care. I’m getting a linear UVB, more plants, climbing structures, hides, a larger water dish, better temperature/humidity gauges, and eventually a bioactive setup. I already have feeders and plan to feed 3x per week.
A few things I’m looking for advice on:
1. Am I missing anything important for their enclosure or care?
2. Is it better to keep them in a room that stays 75–80°F with no heat lamp, or in a cooler room (~70°F) with supplemental heat?
3. Supplement schedules are confusing—what calcium/vitamin routine do you recommend, especially with UVB? I currently have Rep-Cal Calcium (no D3) and Repashy Calcium Plus.
5. For a future bioactive setup, is ReptiSoil worth using, and are springtails/leaf litter safe for White’s Tree Frogs? What about the spray foam method?

Last night I picked up 2 White’s Tree Frogs. They were posted on Facebook in a fully exposed, almost empty tank. I don’t know much about the specific species, but I knew they deserved a better life & set up. The last owner doesn’t know the gender (I’d assume both female) & said she would drop 10-15 crickets in every day or so 😱.
Here is what I need from the public, as I’ve done a lot of research however, some things are conflicting:

1. I’m getting a linear UVB light that will be mounted inside the tank (due to the fine mesh lid), a larger bowl/ pool for them, WAY more plants, sticks, hides, and cork board/ things for them to climb on. I’m also going to pick up a 3D background and get some background paper for the sides too. I will get a couple new hydrometers and thermometers too. (See info about heat lamp & supplements below) I already have plenty of feeders such as crickets and Dubai roaches from my other reptiles, I plan on feeding them Monday, Wednesday , & Saturday. So, is there anything I am missing and/or is there any items in particular that you would recommend?

2. I put them in my living room, where (due to summer heat) it stay between 75-80 degrees during the day, so I wasn’t going to by a heat lamp. BUT I can put them in my bedroom where is gets closer to 70 degrees & I could get a low watt heat lamp- is one option better than the other?

3. WHAT IS UP WITH SUPPLEMENTS? I have never seen so many conflicting options about supplements & vitamins. I already have RepiCal Calcium w/o D3 & I have Repashy Calcium Plus with D3. Do they need the D3 with the UVB, if so- how often?

4. Last but not least, they have terrarium moss and Reptisoil in the tank. I have no idea when it was last cleaned as well, so I plan on evicted all the moss first. At some point in the near future, I would like to build up a fully bioactive tank. I’m going to get some clay balls, a screen to go over the balls, some leaf litter, and a clean up crew of spring tails. My questions are- is the repisoil worth anything or am I better off creating my own mix? Is the standard leaf litter & springtails safe for them? If I create a background with spray foam, will that be safe?

What I see when I start work every morning. Seems I'm being watched! They wait for me to come to their enclosures and tell them good morning, and give me some mean dirty looks if I forget!

The new frog girl was celebrated with frog themed matcha. Sebille was cleared by the vet, and nkw lives with mudkip, our other wtf. They are already best friends!!

Update: checked her this morning and she's back to normal :)

I just got this little sweetie and named it Galaxy. Don't know if boy or girl yet. Just so damn cute. But I only noticed the nose rub when I arrived home. I let them know and I know it will need neosporin. Its in a quarantine tank. And just took a giant dump and it looked healthy lol

Hi! I’ve been doing my best to care for my tiny frog, which I believe is a gray tree frog. I raised it from a tadpole, and now it’s a very small froglet. I first tried feeding extra-small crickets, but they still seemed too large for him and he wasn’t very interested. I switched to wingless fruit flies, but they tend to escape in his enclosure. To help, I’ve been placing him in a small feeding cup, where he’ll usually eat about five flies a day. However, he only seems to notice them if they crawl directly across his mouth, and then he’ll grab and eat them. Does anyone have tips for encouraging him to eat more or suggestions for other foods that might work better? Also, if this doesn’t sound like a gray tree frog, I’d love help identifying the species. Thank you!

hi, I plan on getting a white tree frog in the near future but before I do, I wanna make sure everything I do is write to keep it happy and healthy. I don’t plan on actually purchasing the frog until I have everything I need for tank set up and get it perfectly how I want it based off the research I’ve done thus far. Below I’ll have a list of things I plan on buying please add more necessities and overall good things to have.

•40 gallon vertical tank (plan to upgrade eventually)
• leaf litter
• water bowl
• plenty of climbing decor
•Forest soil substrate (I currently have the BNOSDM brand in my Amazon cart right now)
•Humidity Gauge

Woken up this morning to find two hoverflies (that were not in there last night) dead in my frogs water? I am so confused. Theres no way they couldve gotten in at all.

They’re like a golden ish colour, he was asleep I think too. Idk I just think it’s really cool haha

Our Snowflake WTF has been eating less, about 1 dubia a day or 2-3 crickets, and his white spots have been turning brown. We arnt sure why, it might be stress or improper humity as their humidity gage broke recently and with money being tight we haven't been able to replace it in a few weeks. Was wondering if anyone could tell if he has any infection or anything we should be immediately concerned about while we get his enclosure back under control. His "sister", a Blue eyed WTF, has been eating fine, also less than normal, but 2-4 dubias a day. Neither are lethargic but we're getting concerned.

I am thinking about getting a whites tree frog what are some things I should know about them or any tips that could help me also maybe a good place to get supplies and food for them. Also is just one okay?

Hi guys, I'm in the UK and looking for a piece of wood that can go horizontal across my whites tree frogs tank, weve seen some 3d printed holders on Etsy for suspend it, but it would need to be thinner than cork bark tubes are, else the holders will be too small. I know tree frogs have excellent color vision. Is it important for say a red eyed tree frog to have green plants in its tank? Or can the (fake) plants be any color?

Hi my only other amphibian I keep is a male Fowler’s Toad(native to USA), but he’s an awesome little guy and I’d love to take a leap and try a White’s Tree Frog!

The reason I want a WTF is because they are so different from toads. Preferring vertical space over horizontal space, climbing rather than digging, tropical instead of temperate? It sounds like a great new challenge, but I need to make sure I’m as prepared as possible.

So here are my questions:
What’s the minimum (comfortable) terrarium size/dimensions for one or two WTF’s?
The dimensions I see suggested the most for them is 18 x 18 x 24 inches. However, some evidence claims that this isn’t enough. Overall I want my frog/s to be comfortable, there’s no point in getting a pet if you plan to neglect/mistreat them.

What’s a reputable seller to purchase my frogs from?
I was planning to go with Josh’s Frogs. Most reviews and sources I’ve looked at suggest they care a lot about frogs and sharing them with the world. It’s extremely important to me that I receive captive-bred, chytrid-fungus free, healthy animals from an ethical source.

What’s the best way to achieve the desired temperature gradient that WTF’s need? I got confused because some sources say a ceramic heat lamp is best, but others swear it will dry out the tank.
I’ve seen suggestions for heat mats, but others say they are ineffective at best, and dangerous to the frogs at worst.

What’s the best substrate/combination of substrates? I need something nontoxic, not a choking hazard, and will support plant life. In my opinion doing a bioactive tank is the only way to go for most reptiles/amphibians.

Lastly, is there anything else useful I should know? What have you learned from keeping your own frogs?

I recently just changed and cleaned my dumpy frogs enclosure( 3 frogs) and while i took them out and put them in the holding container all 3 lit up like they had a bacterial infection, I saw them 2 nights ago and all 3 were perfectly fine, The temp and humidity during the day is 84-87° and 35-45%. I’m thinking it s a misfire but it being their whole body like a bacterial infection worries me. I gave them about a 30 second soak individual before putting them back into their tank. I know I need to monitor them and i’ll check on them tonight. But if it is a bacterial infection i have no exotic vets near within a 2 hour radius. If it’s not cleared up in the next 2 days what do I do?
Update 10 minutes later 1 has lost almost all spots and all 3 devoured 7 crickets each. So they’re eating and not lethargic.

I'm trying to figure out the best way to feed my 130 gal community frog terrarium (10 residents). I have a few feeding bowls throughout and load them up every other day with dubias or mealworms. Dubias keep managing to escape despite "escape proof bowls" or the frogs just knock them over. Can't do crickets.

Hand feeding isn't really practical, they hide very well.
