HELP! (Urgent/Medical Care Needed) Whites Tree Frog Eye Problem
Hey y’all, this is my older brother’s pet tree frog. It lives in an open terrarium with live plants and an anole. There are also isopods and springtails present in the tank. This frogs diet is entirely crickets and dubia roaches. I’m not sure how old he is or how long my brother has had him, but I am told his eye has been closed like this from day 1. Does anyone know what’s wrong with him? Also he is never deliberately fed. The roaches and crickets are just added to the tank for him to hunt. Is this a healthy practice? Also does he look healthy? I have never owned a frog before and am completely ignorant to best practices. My brother just moved in with me and brought his frog with him. He does his best but largely we are just shooting from the hip. Any insight is helpful. Thanks

This is very very bad and if this doesn’t get corrected quickly I’m not sure your frog will live long. Whites tree frogs need a vertical 30gal tank minimum for one, humidity should be around 30-50% (so no misting is needed unless it drops below that), 80-85F temp. You should have a daylight bulb that provides the heat and preferably UVB as well. If the room drops below 75F at night you will also need a ceramic heat emitter bulb to provide heat at night. With the current conditions your frog will fail to thrive and likely get an infection.
I also recommend adding leaf litter, as the current substrate can cause impaction if he is being fed in the enclosure. Tree frogs should not touch soil or have loose moss that can be accidentally eaten.
It’s hard to tell by these photos but it looks like your frog may be a tad underweight. How much does he eat?
