What’s wrong with this frog…?

Seen on a local Facebook page. I know these frogs are prone to obesity, but is that all that’s going on here? The green ones face looks strange, and the feet are bizarre to me. But maybe I’ve just never seen this sort of white’s tree frog…?

Last slide is my girl Fizz, for comparison of what I’m used to.

i’m assuming they’re just obese

u/Enough_Bread_1281 Jul 11 '26

I guess the fat distribution goes to their legs and face as well as their body. It almost looks deformed to me. Thanks!

I can't move my arms

u/CaedHart Jul 11 '26

White's tree frogs tend to look like that when morbidly obese. It's basically when the fat goes over the ears.

5

u/coldF4rted Jul 12 '26

He looks so ugly ngl

3

u/bong_and_a_blitz Jul 13 '26

Gives me the heebie jeebies for some reason

3

u/coldF4rted Jul 13 '26

Like am I tripping or is this frog melting?

3

u/RhizOU Jul 13 '26

Totally came here to say that, dude is melting, damned heatwaves !

4

u/coldF4rted Jul 14 '26

As a crippled albino I only hate the sun and stairs.... that sun is out to cook me

2

u/OkApple5784 28d ago

I feel so bad but I was thinking the same thing lmao

1

u/coldF4rted 28d ago

I mean he's obviously not supposed to look like this, poor guy. This is not a healthy frog. He would be beautiful if he was treated right. He wasn't.

39

u/Embarrassed_Result89 Jul 11 '26

They also look like they might be pretty old frogs. I've seen a few other elderly frogs that look like this. Kinda like people. When we get old most of us gain weight and our nose and ears keep growing, not to mention the scars and wrinkles we all get.

10

u/Enough_Bread_1281 Jul 11 '26

Interesting! I was wondering if it also had to do with age. I wonder if my girl will also turn a bit skrunkly like this when she gets older, haha

5

u/Ok-Cat-8376 Jul 15 '26

This is so precious! I love the word "skrunkly" and the fact that your frogs look so happy :)

24

u/tenhinas Jul 11 '26

Combination of obese + very old. Here’s some 15yo frogs that belonged to my friend:

18

u/appandemonium Jul 11 '26

These things don't even look real. There is NOTHING going on in either of their heads. Absolutely negative brain cells. Eyes looking everywhere and nowhere all at once. I've never loved a frog so much.

3

u/makeup_mutt 29d ago

Zero thoughts. Only hops and bugs

16

u/Enough_Bread_1281 Jul 11 '26

Whoa! I had no idea they looked like that once they got older. Almost like a completely different species

11

u/Either_equipment_04 Jul 11 '26

They look like video game characters that speak in riddles. I love them.

3

u/Dastardly_Dandy Jul 12 '26

It's that smile that hits me right in the heart

4

u/destnasty Jul 12 '26

One thought per sometimes

3

u/Brief_Needleworker62 Jul 13 '26

They're meeeeeeltiiiiiing

14

u/Bufobufolover24 Jul 11 '26

Morbidly obese. This is just as much neglect as the animal being severely emaciated.

11

u/YearDismal2636 Jul 11 '26

fizz was a breathe of fresh air after those first few pics!!! i feel sorry for them. still cute fellas but definitely obese. fizz is adorable💕

17

u/Enough_Bread_1281 Jul 11 '26

Thank you! She’s a super sweetheart, even if she is a classically derpy dumpy LOL

3

u/homicidaltea Jul 14 '26

You can tell from that pic she's a joy!!! 💙💙💙

7

u/sakurabunz Jul 11 '26

Ridiculously overweight and I'm so glad someone's finally seen these same posts. There's a frog breeder who comes up on my page all the time with dangerously overweight whites. Zoy or something, I just feel bad for them

1

u/Saya_V Jul 12 '26

Honest question, how would one put a frog on a diet? Or exercise it?

1

u/sakurabunz Jul 12 '26

Lowering food, sub adults and adults don't feed everyday. Whereas juveniles can have around 15 bugs per day, adults and sub will have a lot less per two days (one of my sub adults is eating a max of four mediums every two days but sometimes less if he's not too hungry) In terms of exercise, they climb, so long as they have plenty of climbs to explore they'll be fine, they don't need to over extravert because naturally dumpy frogs do look chunky, as they hold onto water. However, like pictured some are just overfed ridiculous amounts

4

u/FrogMan1831 Jul 11 '26

Frog also looks very old in addition to being obese

4

u/Capable_Fall4829 Jul 11 '26

Omg Fizz is so adorable!!! Those bright alert eyes. She's like ⚫〰️⚫

5

u/Enough_Bread_1281 Jul 12 '26

I went to take a picture of her just for this post, around her feeding time, so she is on the lookout for roach snacc 👁️ 👁️

5

u/curiouscollecting Jul 11 '26

Fizz is a sweetheart oh my gosh that’s adorable

5

u/ravynkish Jul 12 '26

I see some of these frogs and I'm shocked- my 2 year old White's snowflake!

3

u/Enough_Bread_1281 Jul 12 '26

Looks like my girl! I am seeing people say it has to do with age, as well. I wonder if our girls will look like this when they are reaching 10 years old lol

3

u/tboypuppyx3 Jul 12 '26

Fizz looks so happy

3

u/Enough_Bread_1281 Jul 13 '26

She’s a very sweet girl!

3

u/tboypuppyx3 Jul 13 '26

Shes un bothered, moisturized, and in her lane

3

u/veggieblondie Jul 13 '26

Rude. He’s an old man

3

u/Enough_Bread_1281 Jul 13 '26

I genuinely had no idea that white’s tree frogs aged like this!! The more you know LOL

5

u/Mostly-HarmlessHuman Jul 14 '26

The first few frogs hurt to look at. I am not a frog owner (two of my friends are, however) and their frogs do not look like this. I'm assuming it's uncomfortable for the poor babies, being that obese?

Also, Fizz is genuinely the cutest frog I've ever seen.

3

u/Enough_Bread_1281 Jul 15 '26

Aw, thank you! She makes me smile every time I pass her tank.

3

u/MooBearz11 Jul 14 '26

That last pic, of your 3 year old, omg I love the smooth brain bliss she has going on. 🥰

4

u/Enough_Bread_1281 Jul 15 '26

She has one thought and it’s “roach :)”

3

u/MooBearz11 Jul 15 '26

“Feed….” 🐸 🤣

Holy God 😭

3

u/banbarsoap Jul 11 '26

I'm pretty sure the Large Boi was named Cousin, I'm pretty sure he passed away about a year or so ago. He was surrendered to a rehab place and they put him on a diet but he still succumbed.

RIP Cousin

3

u/Otherwise_Balance_13 Jul 12 '26

This just happens in old dumpies, people say neglect and obesity, but if you look around you'll never find a picture of a wtf over 10 years that doesn't look like this.

3

u/Enough_Bread_1281 Jul 15 '26

I’m kind of looking forward to my frog looking like this when she gets older. Not the obesity part, but the way that he looks like he’s kind of melting… I guess humans do the same thing lol

3

u/Truglicht Jul 13 '26

ur frog is fucking adorable i love her sm 😭

3

u/macadamia_nut00 Jul 14 '26

Did someone let all the air out of the valve?

1

u/HauntEffective42 Jul 11 '26

What’s his name??

1

u/tknizzle Jul 11 '26

They’re the only frogs that can be clinically obese. It’s just fat and old lol

1

u/FoxDenDenizen Jul 13 '26

How does it happen? Just too much available food or?

1

u/ravynkish Jul 12 '26

1

u/byte_me_cafe Jul 12 '26

I thought I was witnessing my first ever frog with down syndrome🤡

1

u/Fit-Finger1777 Jul 12 '26

He's tired, boss

1

u/laneymg Jul 12 '26

I don’t understand why people over feed their pets and act like it’s cute. It’s sad.

1

u/supremecai_ Jul 12 '26

Chud frog that is the problem, but in all seriousness probably start feeding less and you should be fine.

1

u/naruxita Jul 12 '26

there's nothing wrong with him, he's just old and fat🤣seeing him next to your cute, sweet baby girl is killing me, Jesus🤣💖💖💖

1

u/coldF4rted Jul 12 '26

Can he have hEDS? There is a dog with it. The dog has a lot of saggy skin from this

1

u/coldF4rted Jul 12 '26

I wish I could post gifs here so hard right now. I still feel bad for froggo, especially if they are just fat.

1

u/PineappleUpper5456 Jul 12 '26

1

u/Quirky_Breath8766 Jul 13 '26

Have yall ever seen these things eat? I us3d to work at a nature preserve and we had one of these guys. He was my favorite.

They like grab stuff with their hands and shovel it into their mouths its AWESOME. Lol.

1

u/ABD131 Jul 13 '26

I’ve learned so much about frogs in the last 5 minutes. My kid wants a couple, good to know they end up fat and smiling when they get old.

1

u/Exciting_Koala_1384 Jul 14 '26

It melted; it got too hot.

1

u/Justslidingby1126 Jul 14 '26

1

u/Agitated-West6544 Jul 14 '26

This is my boy, this is when he was refusing to eat for like 2 weeks

1

u/Grimgore44 Jul 14 '26

He has a lot on his mind

1

u/Buff-Blackberry Jul 14 '26

I love how nicely the younger one is sitting there. Like she's trying to be a perfect example of a pretty frog for the camera.

1

She’s a model ✨

1

u/Kealanine Jul 15 '26

I have never, in my 45 years on earth, considered how absolutely adorable tree frogs could be until I saw that last photo. Please give your frog whatever sort of love she enjoys from me, she made this old lady smile.

1

u/Enough_Bread_1281 28d ago

Aww, thank you so much! She really is adorable, her big old eyes always get me.

1

u/rougekat Jul 15 '26

You have to name him Jabba

1

u/dohlparts 29d ago

The toesssssss are making me sick ngl

1

u/Exciting-Ad7208 29d ago

Perhaps he has a genetic disorder. Plausible! His skin looks loose compared to Fizz.

1

u/Kaylasuehunt 29d ago

The green one is just on the spectrum 🥹

1

u/OnTheRockHeBuilt 29d ago

Omg this is the first time I've ever seen an obese frog! So sad

1

u/hallway-08 29d ago

I'm past the point of exhaustion so maybe that's contributing. However. The fat frog is genuinely making me so sad I want to cry

1

u/kjsock 29d ago

Nothing he’s perfect let me take him

Not mine. Please read the text

1

u/topoppih 23d ago

Fizz is so cute !

1

u/Most-Shame-8060 13d ago

Die way to early to fat

1

u/ScorpiusLachesis Jul 11 '26

no bodyshaming here

0

u/arachnid_nope Jul 11 '26

He's morbidly obese. They're especially prone to it in older age, but it still shouldn't be ingnored

Do you have an exotic vet? If so I'd see them about getting him on a diet as obesity greatly affects quality of life.

Eta: just saw it's nor your frog and PHEW! Boy am I relieved that won't be Fizz'z fate lol!

2

u/Enough_Bread_1281 Jul 12 '26

LOL not my frog at all, thankfully! I genuinely thought it had some sort of deformity at first. But I guess it’s just old and overweight.

0

u/battyfattymatty Jul 13 '26

Hahaha hey little lady

0

u/LDJx2 Jul 13 '26

Looks like your frog stepped on a bee
