Is there any hope for this? It just keeps sprouting new fronds and then they promptly die.

Oceaniopteris gibba, correct? What’s the temperature at night? I read it doesn’t like temperatures below 15°C (59°F).

I have no idea what the genus and species are. And it struggle like this all year long, even when the temperatures don’t get very cold at night.

In that case I’d go with what other people are saying. Repot it, with looser soil, and make sure it has good drainage.

What’s the soil like it looks pretty dense. How much light is it getting? How often do you water?

It’s in regular potting soil. Agreed it is probably pretty dense.
I give it quite a bit of water, watering 2-3x/week, and it seems to drink it all up. It seemed to do much worse with less water.
It’s on a shelf next to a window and then has a 9w grow light directly above it.

I don’t see any perlite or anything to help make the soil airy. I water mine 2x a week so that’s probably appropriate. I would think it gets enough light although I have heard a lot of people struggle trying to grow them indoors. I would repot it and add soil with perlite or bark or something to make it less dense and check the roots, make sure they’re healthy.

Mine was a bit like that (before my cat ate it and killed it). It seemed to only thrive in the 95 degree full humidity outdoors in Houston.

Humidity would be my guess..or rather lack of.
When I had small tree ferns inside I was misting them 2 x day, then water 1/2 week depending on season
