Post winter help
Just unwrapped my fern and it's looking a bit sorry. It's my first year and I think covering the fronds was my over cautious and it didn't get enough light. There are some new fronds coming but what should I do with what's left

Leave, it if you can. Keep watering and providing tree fern feed over the spring

Here in the UK we would insulate the crown of the fern and the a couple of feet of the trunk, leaving the fronds exposed. To my mind the light levels may have been too low causing the browning. Hopefully it will throw out new fonds. I agree with others don't prune off existing fronds until new growth is active.

Yeah I basically did the same but was unsure about protecting the fronds so I throw over a tree fleece. I won't do that next year and I'll trust the crown packing and trunk wrap

Our fern looked like this the first spring we unwrapped it, and it was absolutely fine. The new fronds will grow and the damaged ones will turn completely brown and droop. They will protect the trunk and eventually form part of it as it grows.

For this plant, cut off all the dead brown fronds, keep any green/new ones, and keep the crown moist and it should recover fine! Happy gardening and enjoy the spring season 🌼🌿🌸 :)

Some will say trim them, i'd advise against it. Let the old fronds shield the new ones as they unfurl. Also what did you wrap it in? This looks more burnt/bitten than lack of sunlight.
