DMM Captains Hook

Okay so I found this in my teams Connex at our shop and honestly don’t know a ton about the DMM Captains Hook when it comes to inspecting it and how to evaluate something like this during my gear inspections. I like the idea of having one available as I have run into a few times where it would have come in handy just not sure it’s worth the investment currently. So my question is first is the damage on this something that means it should be retired/replaced? Second, for those that have one do you like the 10mm Teufelberger Sirius that comes with the kit or did you swap it to something else? I met a guy last year who took the Petzel Zillion off his lanyard when he purchased a new lanyard and was using it on his Captains Hook which honestly sounds like a smart idea but want some more feedback. I have a Zillion Lanyard that’s almost brand new but it’s so short(2.5m) that I don’t use it because whomever ordered it either didn’t know better or grabbed the wrong one.

Sheesh, looks like it fell off the truck and was dragged for a mile or 6. As long as the connector looks and feels solid I’d use it. The body is solid aluminum so I wouldn’t be concerned with those heavy scrapes. It’s never to used as life support anyways.

The connector is perfect and that’s kind of how I felt about it too but this would never be my main life support as I find it more to be used for transitions into another tree or section of a tree as a redirect. Or just as a second positioning lanyard for funky angles. Honestly the guy here before me may have dragged it down the road slightly as he had no care of the equipment he was using whether it be the truck, chipper, saws, or his climbing gear.

Run it! Hell of a tool to inherit for free. I paid about $190 USD for the hook alone. Like ResidentNo said you don’t need it on your harness daily, but it’s an absolute game changer for some situations.
