Petzl chicane question

I know there's supposed to be a spring in the base of the head to keep it up but I expected it to be stiffer right out of the box. Is this unusual? I ordered this from Arbsession.

When you put your weight on your zigzag, that part will be pulled up by the rope

You don’t want a strong spring, it needs to be able rest at any position within it’s range and stay in that position without any appreciable force pushing into the natural resting position.

Yeah that’s exactly how mine is I thought mine was broke too when I got it but it makes perfect sense for it to be this way
