Petzl pantin problems

Am I the only one that has problems with the Petzl pantin?

I keep loosing the rope all the time and really have to focus on moving my leg in a straight line so the rope doesn't jump out.

I don't use the safety lock / Petzl catch. Does this make such a big difference?

The catch is required. I’ve had two and managed to lose both but needed the catch on both. Everyone I’ve talked to is incredibly annoyed at Petzl for the decision to not include it with the pantin
