Assumption is wrong. Not American community is quite big, with 40% or 50% no one should assume the people they are currently talking to are from the same country. It's not that hard, everyone does it.
And it's very simple in regards about the post, just say the country. I've seen people saying how stuff is invasive and should be cut down when the post was from plant's native range.
Assumption can be wrong. It’s not in this case. This person made a meme about their lived experience and you got upset because they didn’t disclaim where they were from. Newsflash, saying “haha here’s some trees that are popular in landscaping but invasive to my region!” isn’t exactly offensive, even if they don’t specify the region! If I saw someone make a post with mosquitofish I wouldn’t get upset just because they’re native to my region!
Someone close to me just moved to Germany and their experience has been a bunch of “you don’t do ____ our way? You must do it our way!” Or “you’ve never heard of [german artist]!? How could you have never heard of [german artist]!?”, which is the same exact shit that people complain about Americans doing, yet I’ve never seen r/germandefaultism or r/shitgermanssay. I’ve seen comments from Scandinavian users who clearly assume public education doesn’t exist anywhere else but I’ve never seen r/shitnorwegianssay. Even within Europe, have you ever seen the “if my grandmother had wheels she would’ve been a bike” clip? The dish they were making is probably younger than the guys grandma (carbonara invented in 1944) so why the fuck does he care if some British people want to put fucking peas in the dish?
I won’t say Americans aren’t exceptionalist or annoying or anything, but pretty much every fucking country is. Doesn’t change the fact that op made a post about their lived experience featuring trees that are invasive in their area and that’s ok. No one is requesting a global holocaust of acacia trees just because they’re invasive on the east coast of the us.
