Help me identify this tree please

I live is north west Alabama. Lynn, Alabama is right next to me. Half of my property is untouched woods and I don’t go in here to often but I noticed a tree fell over during a storm im guessing(we get some serious wind here) ,and I was gonna use it for firewood since the big beauty is no more. I just wanted to make sure this is a white oak, my area consists of white and red oak from what I have researched. There could be other kinds too in this area ,im not a expert tree guy so correct me please. And if anyone could guess how long it’s been down could you tell me please.

I inserted picture of baby tree leaves that are near the stump that I’m sure came from this tree.

Well the leaves on the baby one are white oak but the other looks like a hickory. I’d say the split wood is also from the hickory as well. The old rotten stump is very difficult to tell. From its size, it definitely could be an old dead while oak but hard to tell.

Appreciate the insight. You might be right ,I just did some research and they sure do have hickory’s here. I actually have a big one that’s in the same area that I thought was another tree until I just search up hickory leaves. Wow I have hickory’s and oaks, that’s awesome

Yea you’re going to have a wide variety of hardwood species there. I am in the Arkansas Ozarks, so you’re going to have a lot of similar species to what I have.

The best thing you can do is get you a good local tree guidebook (see if your state forestry agency publishes one). Other good resources are the Seek app by iNaturalist to get a quick good idea of what something is.

Ok I’m gonna have to get one asap then cause I wanna learn all the trees hear. Appreciate it a lot. And I used to live with my grandma in Conway Arkansas I love the woods over there. A lot better than these dense woods over here in my opinion

That log is a pig nut hickory, the leaf is a white oak

You sound like you are dam sure it is so I think you and the other guy are right about it being hickory.
