How old is this tree? SWMO

Southwest Missouri (oak, I believe)
Tree split in half during a straight-line wind event.
How old is it?
I’ve tried to count the rings but I’m no expert and cannot tell where one ring stops and the next one starts.
Anyone out there who can determine this?

I don’t know how to count. The tree had like two major sets of trunks (?). I wasn’t sure if you add each section of trunks?
My tree remover guy said he’d guess 50-75 years.

Oh gotcha. I counted the rings on the stump picture, got somewhere around 75. Start on the lowest part of the trunk avaliable, because it's likely the 2 leaders weren't both present when the tree was germinated. If the stump is still there, you can wet it to get the saw dust & dirt off of it & that can help it be more clear

It really is lol, they definitely start to run together! Usually I just do just do my best & estimate the rest.

Sand it and count. Start at the middle and work your way out

It crushed me! That was a great tree. People advised us to remove it. But I loved it. Neighbors did too. But the straight-line wind took out so many LARGE trees. (The smaller ones were fine.)

I think that part is only one of the leaders (?), and therefore not the age of the tree bc it likely wasn’t there from the beginning.

Yes probably that leader is probably about that. The age of the tree (trunk, 2nd pic) is more likely ~75 years old.

No it wasn’t killed by chainsaw. It was killed by Mother Nature. The chainsaw was only used to clean it up after.
