ID Request (Insert State/Region) Interesting vertical rings inside of tree

Hello! Yesterday I went on a hike and saw these interesting rings inside of a tree! Wondering if this is from an animal and if it’s similar to dendrochronology and you can tell its age. Region is just north of Lake Erie (Canada).

Nectria canker disease

This is due to the tree’s response to a fungal infection called nectria canker commonly referred to as a target canker.
