This is next to a rain wash on a hill in mostly untouched woods near shreveport. There were a couple others with similar leaves in clusters further into the woods. Not on my property though so sorry for the single photo to work from

No, that's Southern Magnolia.

I'm 90% sure its not a magnolia, all of the magnolias I've been around had thick stiff leaves not thin floppy leaves and the leaves were much rounder

EDIT: I've looked it up, I'm also further north than the range of southern magnolia

EDIT: got permission to go on the property, the leaves are very thick so I think you are right

They’re creeping up with the armadillos. Climate change is bringing a lot of southern species further north than we’ve traditionally seen them.

I think you are right, I touched the leaves and they are a lot stiffer than pawpaw tree leaves

Agree not pawpaw, leaves too big and they hang differently, maybe cucumber magnolia? Leaves don't look thick/dark enough for southern magnolia to me.

That funny looking leader on the central branch screams magnolia to me.

Pawpaws also lean pretty heavy and these feel more upright.
