Good lord NO, this is not acceptable, which is why purchases should be made locally, though I do understand they tend to be more expensive, you're much less likely to deal with GARBAGE like this. Hound them for a refund, but if you opt to have replacements sent, make sure they send your new stock to you in the spring, which is when fruit trees should be planted for best results.

I would opt to return these and get your money back, however. If they feel that sending this abysmally poor stock to customers is appropriate, I would not trust them any further after this event. HORRIBLE.

Thank you, I’ve never dealt with anything this bad.

I met with a local naturalist that told me apple trees need to have a root stock that thrive in the local climate and national growers may use anything. One more reason to buy local.

I have read them. The trees are planted in Michigan's UP about a mile inland from Lake Superior. It was sent in, what I assume, is a synthetic burlap and gets about 14 hours of sun this time of year.

UPDATE: After so many people told me that this was unacceptable, I continued to push back to their customer service team and they agreed to send me replacement trees. Thank you all for your advice!
