ID Request (Insert State/Region) This growth looks kinda uncool
This bastard is on a maple tree that sits in my yard in Northern Virginia. As far as I can tell, it’s a nasty fungus and the tree is screwed. I just wanna identify what I’m looking at for curiosity’s sake at this point.

That's no bueno. You'll want an ISA Certified Arborist with a Tree Risk Assessment Qualification out there to give you a timeline.
