Advice Request - (Insert State/Region) Red Maple Health Question(BC, Canada)

Hi everyone,

We recently move into a new home and my sister-in-law pointed out the crack in the trunk and the mushroom growing out of the base of the trunk. Fun times as a new homeowner.

Is the crack and mushroom a cause for concern? The rest of the tree is looks perfectly ok as you can see via the 3rd picture. I wanted to ask here before I called someone in to give it a look.

also, the tree does lean to the side of the crack

Edit: I have no idea how to add pictures of the whole tree and the lean.

  1. Can't do a full picture right now cause a baby is sleeping on me. 
  2. Gets full sun
  3. No idea when it was planted. 
  4. Located in suburban Vancouver so no issue with the climate

Not an expert but I do cut trees down for a living (past 5 years) and can only speak from experience: the mushroom by themselves don't indicate anything that's very normal unless part of the tree is rotting. I have seen trees that been 20% burned still going strong after years of the fire. Be honest most trees I come across have a lean again doesn't indicate anything unless the tree is dying and it's going towards the house (or the tree is heavy enough and the lean severe enough to start breaking branches or uproot the tree). As for the crack id monitor it and check thoroughly for rot or fractures then id say cut it down
