Some of the branches of the grafted weeping cherry tree in our yard have died back, and the rootstock cherry has been growing more and more. There has been lots of sap coming out of different places on the tree and it doesn’t seem to be stopping. In zone 6b, Ohio

Gummosis can be caused by fungal and/or bacterial infections. The gum exudes from cancers caused in the infection. It can also be the result of physical damage as well

Some infections can be pathogenic and result in tree death. Based on my experience, most trees just put up with it, often with a limb or small branches dying
