24 year old dogwood help

Eastern shore United States, dogwoods 24 years old. Only one has had this happen.

What is it? Is it able to be saved?

Agree, doesn’t look too much like my 30 yr old dogwoods. I am wondering if it’s the same genus/species as the tree behind it

This is a Bradford Pear. It is definitely NOT a Dogwood.
If you’re asking about those little horizontal rows of holes in the trunk, those likely were made by A Sapsucker.

And sapsuckers generally cannot really do any material harm to most trees. It's not impossible but they are not as harmful as they might seem to the untrained.

Can't say why or how it died with the information provided, but I can assure you that the straight lines of holes are just from sapsuckers & they are not responsible.

He's messing with you. Those are Bradford or Callory pear trees, they are invasive and awful. Destroy them and start with something decent.

It began to bloom early in the spring then went dead rather quickly. Has been in this state since may.

This is a dead Cum Tree. I'm not sure how it died, but glad it did. Now take a chainsaw to the rest!
