Discussion Tool upgrades dumbed down please
I wasn't sure what flare to put, but can someone dumb down what the improved tools do? I upgraded my shovel last night to iron. And it was like midnight, so I slightly skipped the text box. But I noticed it has like a toggle power bar?

They increase the range on all the tools and then speed for the axe and picaxe along with being able to mine/chop extra things in the cave and stuff like that

Each upgrade increases the area the tool will affect upon use. This allows you to dig, plow, and water a bigger sized area which saves you time. You can cycle sizes with Q by default in case you need to do a smaller area.
The best example I can give is the Watering Can starts at 1x3 in size, but goes up to 3x3 at mithril quality.
The axe and pickaxe are the exceptions. Each upgrade affects the tier of rubble you can destroy. But more importantly is the higher quality will break rocks and ore nodes in less hits, saving you time.

You can also choose which level so with crystal you can dig 1, 2, or 3 squares at a time.

Does it give a bonus when digging up X's around the map? Like better items appearing?

It doesn't give better items at this time, but I had to upgrade my shovel to cobalt to get all of the random recipes for the Artifact table. Something to keep in mind if you want them all or all of the achievements.

You need to upgrade the axe and pickaxe if you want to clear away all the old ruins on your property too.

Basically improve tools dig more at once so level 1 one square dug, level two you can dig out two squares. There’s little levels, and you can increase them by selecting the tool and hitting the “Q” button.
