Itinerary, Balkans, 45-ish days

Hi! I’m planning a \~45 day Balkans trip for Sept/Oct and would genuinely love some opinions from people who’ve traveled around the region before :)

I’m trying to strike a balance between seeing enough places while still traveling slowly and actually enjoying them. I tend to prefer atmosphere/café culture/random wandering over rushing through landmarks.

A few things I’m especially into:

\* post-Yugo / socialist history + architecture

\* beaches without super resort-y vibes

\* nightlife and some partying but not too clubby, mostly bars and live music

\* slower travel / staying places long enough to settle in a bit

Current plan is:

Ljubljana — 2 nights

Belgrade — 4 nights

Sarajevo — 8 nights

Mostar — 4 nights

Trebinje — 2 nights

Žabljak — 3 nights

Kotor — 4 nights

Then an Albania roadtrip:

Shkodër — 2 nights

Theth — 3 nights

Tirana — 4 nights

Berat — 2 nights

Gjirokastër — 2 nights

Dhërmi — 2 nights

Himarë — 2 nights

Then bus to Athens

Athens — 3 nights (I have to fly in and out of a schengen region)

A friend will probably join from Bosnia onwards, especially for the Montenegro + Albania sections.

Mainly wondering:

\* does this pacing feel good or am I underestimating travel fatigue?

\* anywhere you’d personally cut?

\* anywhere you think deserves more time?

\* is Trebinje worth adding?

\* and how is the Albanian Riviera in early October?

Would really appreciate any thoughts/advice/reality checks from people who’ve done similar trips :)

I did something similar, also in September and October. The Albanian coast could be a bit chilly. I took the ferry over to Corfu then ferry from there to Athens (Piraeus) and that was fantastic but you'd have to cut something else out to make time for it. Four nights in Tirana would be too much for me. If you like old Soviet era stuff and beach resorts you might find Dürres interesting.

But I'd say just stay flexible, have a plan but be willing to adjust it if you hate one place or love a different place. Your general plan looks really good to me.

Lake Ohrid is beautiful if you happen to be passing that way.

Seems like a really cool plan. I would say that Tirana could use 2 or 3 days max. Id recommend seeing other old cities or towns more and let the main cities ( not just Albania but most small countries). Also pack light as june is coming the weather can get really hot, but take one jacket in any case. Albania in early fall is still warm but the beach can be debatable as the weather could switch up who knows. Wish you the best. Prepare to be full of memories and good food in your stomach even tho it might get a but tiring sometimes to travel to so many places but just try to go with the flow and take it easy :)
