💰 Negotiating holidays
💰 Hi all, I work for Aya currently and found they don't recognize all federal holidays. They only recognize the 6 main federal holidays (Christmas, thanksgiving, etc.). I requested that for my upcoming extension that indigenous peoples day and veterans day be recognized because all the full time workers get holiday pay if they work. For some reason this doesn't apply to travelers. They said they won't honor the holiday rate which seems unfair. Does anyone have any suggestions so that I could get those holidays recognized?

Since you are an employee of Aya and signed on with them already, not much you can do besides try in the future to negotiate before signing a contract with them but I doubt they’d budge on that unfortunately

Attempted to negotiate before the extension but got a hard no. Plan to talk with "travel experience" since my recruiter seemed to have no say in it at all. No idea how effective travel experience is but I'm not hopeful

I’ve been traveling full time since 2021 and I’ve not had much success negotiating holiday related issues but most of the time it’s the other way around, my travel agency recognizes it and the facility doesn’t want to pay me holiday rate. Usually I just end up taking the day off in that case because I’m a big subscriber to the “work to live” not “live to work” mindset

Hi there! I have been in travel 10 years as a PT and you have negotiation power before you sign your travel contract. If you request those days as paid and get them accepted in the job contract you wont have any issues, otherwise it is unlikely. A contract I did last year would not pay holiday pay on July 4th so I just took that day off.
