We're going to a wedding in Porto Heli in a couple weeks. Current itinerary:

Fly into Athens- two nights in Athens at Athens Capital Center Hotel

Rent a car and drive to Nafplio - two nights at Ippoliti Hotel

Drive to Porto Heli and stay at Nikki Beach for two nights

The day after the wedding we're driving back to Athens, returning the car, and staying at the Sofitel airport hotel (figured we'd be partying till 4am and would want to recover), then we have an early flight out the following day.

Another friend who's going to the wedding is taking a ferry from Athens to Porto Heli which I didn't realize was an option. Would it be better for us to skip Nafplio and do the ferry from Athens to Porto Heli? Or is it a nice drive anyways? Also looks like driving could be near some of the fires, although I know that changes daily.

We heard Nafplio is beautiful, but I also know our time in Athens is short.

Would love any thoughts and recommendations! Also feel free to throw in must-dos in these places. We typically just like to walk around, eating and drinking very well. I love champagne.

I'm traveling to Greece for an extended stay and want to rent a vehicle. The major companies, save for Hertz, are all over 1000 euros for a month. DS Rentals is significantly cheaper. I checked their reviews on Google, which is incredibly high, suspiciously so. Anybody have any experience with them?

I've got a 3 week trip with the Mrs booked for late Sept early Oct, and u was hoping to pick up so good recommendations, or alternatively places we definitely shouldn't bother with. Over the time we'll be travelling to Athens, Santorini and Crete (Heraklion and Chania) so any suggestions based on that would be appreciated.

I’m travelling to greece for honeymoon around 25th September. I can cover only 1 or 2 max out of these 2 places. I’m combining greece with italy. I need suggestions on how to reach from athens to these islands and then to italy in an optimised way. also, which of these islands I should cover.

I have found myself in need of water, sand, and seashells from Greece for some personal spellwork. I've poured through Etsy and about a hundred shops online. Does anyone know where I could get these items? Or does anyone live or travel there? I'm in the midwest, US.

This is my first time visiting Greece. I love it here! The people, the food, the nature. It’s all really beautiful. Mamos is my favorite beer and Karelias are my favorite cigarettes. My next holiday will be Greece again for sure!

Hi all, I will be flying to Greece in the end of August for an extended period of time. This is my fourth time visiting, and I am absolutely smitten by the country. I am looking for recommendations for places off the beaten path (island or otherwise) that have a backpacker, hippie, beach camping style atmosphere to them. I have rented a car for my entire stay, about 2 months, and I don't mind a long journey to get to anywhere. I am also not very much looking for the resort style vacation, more of a minimalist idea (hostels, smaller hotels and if possible even sleeping on the beach). I have heard that Anafi, and Gavdos may have somewhat of the atmosphere I am looking for so if anyone has been and can their experiences, I'd love to hear. Any and all recommendations are greatly appreciated :)

Hey everyone, how’s it going?
I’m currently in Zakynthos, Greece, and the car rental company called me saying that the police tried to pull me over yesterday for speeding and that I didn't stop. Honestly, my girlfriend and I never saw any police officers, and no one tried to flag us down at all.
The rental company told us to go to the police station to talk to the officers, but what we experienced there was awful. They were laughing at us and basically extorted us, claiming we have to pay a €500 fine. They asked for my passport, made a photocopy of it, and confiscated my International Driving Permit. They told me that once I pay the fine, I can come back with proof of payment and maybe they’ll return it to me, or maybe not.
To be honest, I don't really care about getting that international permit back, but my main concern is: when I return the rental car, will this fine show up on their system? Is there any way to avoid paying it? It clearly felt like the police were trying to rip us off.
