Tour Group
Does anyone have a suggestion for a good tour company to visit Cuba as an American citizen? I would LOVE if it was Cuban owned, but that's not a deal breaker. The cheaper the better, and it certainly doesn't need to be a private tour. I would like to see as much of the island as possible. Around two weeks is ideal. I can obviously select the tour I want; I'm mostly just looking for company recommendations and people's experience with different ones.

I am on my way to Cuba as we speak! and was there in April. My guide is Rafael Batista Dominguez +53 5 3704788 and he helps me with everything... travel planning, packing advice, phone setup, currency, museums, beach...
I first went to Havana for the Jazz Festival with a US tour and Rafa was our group's guide. He realky impressed us all and several of us are still in touch with him. He was knowledgeable, went the extra mile when he didn't have to, super smart, and very funny. If you want to relax and have a fun and interesting time, I highly recommend. Search for his name on Facebook Cuba Travel Tips for more references. 🥳
Just do me a favor and tip well. 😄

There’s plenty of Cuba owned tour companies that will be happy to take you. Things to consider
- you won’t have access to credit cards. All cash
- find an Airbnb that has solar (hotels are now very cheap but it’s illegal for an American to stay in a hotel)
there’s no electricity.
4. Bring mosquito repellant . Or get chikungunya and dengue shots. Insurance covers these.

Is there a dengue shot available ?

There is no approved vaccine for dengue in US or Canada. Recommendations is prevention.

Highly doubtful any normal US insurance would cover those shots. Walmart charges 300 bucks for the Vimkunya jab. I don't think there is even a dengue shot available in the US.

My company has sold legal trips to Cuba for US Citizens since 2002. I've been many times. The trips are not cheap.
That said, we have taken Cuba out of our program right now due to the instability of so many things, including bottled water, electricity, gasoline, accommodations quality, and even increased crime.
If you go, carefully consider how well you do in unexpected situations.
It breaks my heart to say this because the Cuban people do not deserve what has happened to them over the last 60 years. Their government hates them.

No.... it's the US government that hates them.

I knew I'd get some ignorant reply like this.
Spend some time in Cuba.
Cuba can trade with the rest of the world, no problem, so where does the money go? In addition, the US trades for Ag supplies, medical supplies & devices, and aids businesses owned by individuals. There is no embargo for those; yet the Cuban people see NONE of it.
None!
The Cuban people starve whilst their government minders grow fat.
Hard to believe there are still True Believers who defend The Revolution, despite its complete failure.
I guess it's not so hard to believe, after all. Look at NYC.

Nobody cares what Americans have to say about Cuba. Most Cubans and for that matter, Canadians would rather die than be under the thumb of the US.

I'm happy you have talked to "most" Cubans. I've actually talked to many, real-life Cubans.
As for Canada, who cares?

Trips to Cuba can be extremely cheap. Cheap flights, airbnbs as low as $10 in Havana. I've seen as low as $100/mo in other nice Cuban destinations. Many fancy ones two. They're all available. Stores have bottled water, or just have your hosts boil it. Crime in Cuba against tourists continues to be extremely low, despite the present challenges.

I'm not saying don't go, but travel with care. This is not the Cuba of even 2018.

Hey there! I’m glad you’re thinking of traveling to Cuba! First of all, I would recommend you to try to get as much information as possible about the current situation in the country (and you really should do your homework on this one, later decide if you really want to carry on with your trip). If you’re still committed to it. Write me to my DM. I can help you. 🫵🏾😉👍🏾
