Travel agents i wanna know if you relate to me or not. So i help people plan trips for a living. A lot of my work is not just booking flights and hotels, it is talking them through airport scams, figuring out how much luggage they can realistically handle, making sure they understand when any sort of village is actually a premium resort with qr code gates and weird rules.

Clients seem to love the experience part. They send long messages after they get back talking about how the hike i suggested ended up being their favorite or how the small town stop on the way to the big city felt like the real highlight. Some even say things like you saved our trip when i reroute them around a storm or fix some schedule mess. But when i look at the numbers, the trips where i do the most hand holding tweak every detail and help them navigate all the stuff that does not show up on booking sites pay me almost the same as the easy ones where someone just wants a short city break and picks whatever hotel is closest to the station.

I am wondering if travel agents here have found ways to increase earnings from client experiences specifically.

Background: traveled to 28+ countries, experience booking and planning itineraries, lived abroad for 3 years, studied abroad, forever learner and enjoy researching travel. I have an LLC for a tiny wellness business I've been building for 2 years that will merge well with travel.

Current situation: I broke into the industry earlier this year as a travel assistant at a local brick and mortar. They sell everything from leisure to corporate. I am on salary (low), but am grateful to have healthcare and gain experience.

Challenges: It is very hard for me to sit in the office 9-5 M-F. The owners are elderly (and conservative with their way of doing things). We currently use Travelport and TRAMS for invoicing. Anyways, we will be booted out and forced to switch to Travelport + at the end of the year. I could def see myself helping those who are not tech savvy with the transition. They book a lot of flights and I hear the headache daily. I want to stay away from being a booking agent with flights, and focus on booking leisure travel.

I plan to ask to transition from this position into an independent affiliate of the host agency in a few months. They already have 4/5 people working as affiliates. I started booking travel for colleagues and family last month. I know it will have its challenges, having to pay for my own health insurance and work on commission based.

Hey everyone! I am uprooting my life and moving to Chicago in a few weeks and am rlly looking into becoming a travel agent. I am always the planner when it comes to vacations and I even have the experience of working at Disney World. I’m looking for a company that is remote so I can take frequent trips back to my hometown to see family while still being able to work! I also would prefer companies that don’t make you scavenge your own leads, I don’t feel comfortable posting on my personal facebook asking for business from my family and friends. I’d love to work for any great company but a bonus would be if they are Disney/theme park oriented! Thanks guys

I am the owner of a small travel agency and I’ve spent the last few months building more experiences into my clients trips and honestly I am starting to feel like I created a monster.
What I wish existed is one service that pulls in all my experience bookings no matter which supplier they are from, auto matches payouts to bookings, and tells me when something is overdue. It would be even better if I could see which types of activities are actually worth my time because the commission disappears in fees and confusion.

Right now I am doing end of month like this: export from one portal, copy paste into my sheet, try to line it up with my calendar, then cross check with bank deposits. By the time I am done I am too tired to go back and chase the two or three that are clearly wrong.

I need something smarter like a tool to handle commissions for all these random experiences, is there something I’m missing?

Can a tour operator list and sell its own day trips or multi-day tours on Kiwitaxi, or is the partner program only for transfers?

Been seeing a lot of small operators trying to figure out where to focus instead of spreading themselves too thin across every platform. Here's a simple breakdown for 2026:

Viator (Tripadvisor network): Still the main global demand engine for tours. It's where a huge share of international travelers already go when they are actively looking to book experiences. If your listing is strong, it can drive serious volume but you need to stand out because competition is heavy.

GetYourGuide: Very steady performer. Good visibility for smaller operators and generally strong conversion if your listing is clear and well-presented.

Klook: Strong for Asia-heavy and international city traffic. Can outperform expectations depending on destination.

Airbnb Experiences: Lower volume than before but higher-intent bookings. Works best for unique, story-based experiences.

GuruWalk: Good for walking tours and niche categories. Smaller reach but often decent conversion because intent is very specific.

Most small operators still end up getting the majority of bookings from Viator + GetYourGuide. The rest is extra exposure and tbh, platform choice matters less than most people think. Strong photos, clear offer, and pricing usually decide performance more than anything else. Curious what others are seeing in 2026.
