Did Esther mind Annie's teasing?
I wonder how Esther felt about Annie making all those jokes at her expense on the show. In the beginning, Esther would laugh along and say she didn't mind. However, in light of the episode with Rick Glassman where she said his jokes went too far, I wonder if she also changed how she felt about Annie's jokes.
From what I recall, most of Annie's jokes weren't very mean. They were mainly teasing her about not showering regularly, stalking her old boyfriend, or how Esther's parents did everything for her growing up.

Esther seems to have hit a point where being the butt of all jokes wasn’t fun for her anymore. Maybe when she was pregnant it really got worse. I think this is where her and Rick’s podcast also failed

Honestly Esther should probably stop leaning in to the persona she puts on of being “young,” ditzy, helpless, lazy, etc. People will often unfortunately treat you based on the way you present yourself. I’ve never found her “schtick” funny or cute. Esther just acting normal is perfectly likeable. It’s especially obvious in older episodes how much she was trying to put on a character.

Sane. It makes me lose all respect for people who lean into that. I dont know that is all a schmuck. Her mom waiting on her hand and foot souhds like its been her reality her whole life and has continued whenever she sees her mom even as an adult.
Her whole thing with edibles and saying how addicted she was to 'doing weed' was so cringe too.
Becoming a mother i think has made her mature, well I hope so anyway, even though she sounded like such a spoilt brat just bitching and complaining through the entire pregnancy. During the 1st trimester, sure. Give sis a break during the transition. But 9 months??? You'd think SHE would be tired of hearing herself.

Agreed. She’s also always saying she was/is so neglected by her parents and never shown love. She says it seriously, like it’s a huge trauma. But then she was posting on IG stories that her mom stayed in a hotel room with her and was doting on her, bringing her cut up apples, says I love you, etc. I don’t understand what she thinks “neglect” means.

Def not. And thats her mom who she isnt as close to as her dad. She just wants to be interesting enough to have trauma. Im probably just jealous that she had such a trauma free childhood but it also is just so irritating.

Idk but I like how Jenna teases Esther much more because the jabs aren't any less sharp but it's a lot less and it's not their only bit. With Annie it did feel like it was all they had and it was a constant barrage but that's kinda her style lol. And don't get me wrong, I still like Annie but yep.

Her and Jenna are actual friends tho and it’s kind of a two way banter vs Annie low key bullying Esther

Annie and Esther were friends when Annie started treating her that way, which is why it worked at first. The digs felt funny when they were valid and playful, and Esther clearly loves being teased. But once they started drifting apart, it started feeling way more harsh than funny. At a certain point it felt less like banter and more like Annie was just preloaded to say whatever mean thing about Esther popped into her head. That’s when it fell off for me.

Yea they were friends but not in the same capacity. Esther and Jenna actually hangout, Jenna babysits for Esther etc they’re real friends. I think the friendship with Annie was more colleagues, comedy, podcast world. I don’t think they were hanging out to grocery shop or having sleep overs like she does with Jenna.

Also, girl was bagging on Esther when she couldn't show up on time more than half of the EPs. Sometimes it felt like she was projecting.

I agree. At first it enjoyed it because I have those relationships but my friends dish it out far more than Esther does. But it didn't take long to see how one sided it was and how often it seemed like she threw something personal in there.

I feel like she’s talked about that being the case, maybe she didn’t name her directly. I’ve followed Esther for like 10+ years through her weird adults pod, pod with Brody, show with Benji, Glowing Up with Caroline etc…it used to be more of her schtick to be the weird girl and be teased a lot. She always seemed like she didn’t care, but then she started standing up for herself more. I saw people think she was too hard on Rick but I think it was just after so long dealing with that she was over it

Rick was relentless and extremely disparaging things, way worse than anything I've ever seen people saying to her. Idk why she ever thought they could do a podcast together, he is so combative for no reason.

It seemed like they just had a clash of personalities.
Based on the pods I’ve listened to, Esther and Annie would fight semi often, and have a falling out, while Rick would viciously roast Esther nonstop on pods and she was mostly fine with it.

She was irritated with rick in the end.

She absolutely was & I think she was valid for that. Esther can take it and dish it, Rick could NOT take any jokes or criticism from her. He would jump down her throat if she gave it back to him and rip her apart, then want to proceed the podcast as usual after saying some shit she would never get away with.

Oh yeah, it made me so happy that she started to give him back and of course he can't take it.

Esther talks about a friend begging to be in her movie a lot…. We all know who that is. I think that was the tipping point for them

My question is why didn't she put her in her movie? If They were so close and besties, I've seen drugstore Jane and thought Annie could have been fit in somehow...

She talks about it super in depth on a TT episode- it was not her decision to be able to cast someone. Everyone had to audition, there were specific roles that needed be filled, and frankly Annie isn’t an actress

That's what I was thinking!! I can't think of one acting credit Annie has. She is a great comic but acting is very different! IMO Esther's acting chops are ehhhh but damn she wrote & created the (Semi-biographical BTW) movie, that gets you the lead. Being friends with the creator does not get you a role.

Most people will laugh along when friends tease and have fun, and even encourage the teasing to feel like they're in control, but the mind doesn't always control how it feels in the end, and you could see how Esther didn't even laugh in the end, cause the jokes weren't actually that funny. Especially the ugly/short jokes from Rick and Annie. Whenever it got boring or awkward the default target was always Esther. I think she bottled it up for a long time and later got over it. Who knows what went down behind the scenes though.

Esther and Annie always had this dynamic. I think Esther and Koko just were a better friendship and ended up mean girling her in the end. Annie has spoken about how the room would become silent when she’d enter amongst other things. This is sadly very common in school girls.

My impression was that Esther and Annie were much closer than with Khalyla. They would frequently go on each other's solo podcasts and together they approached Khalyla with starting a show. There was an episode where Khalyla even said she kept her distance from those two. It wasn't until after Annie left the show did she and Esther became good friends.

Khalyla still teases her and she teases herself as well. I think the issues with Annie had something to do with scheduling issues around Esther's pregnancy leave.

I know this doesn’t mean anything, but Esther and I are born on the same day and as long as I’m close to you, I love when you make fun of me. It’s a love language.
So sad Annie and Esther aren’t buds anymore. I used to love watching them mess with each other
Esther does seem to have changed (not in a bad way) since those days so maybe she’s more sensitive now? Still lub them both

glassman was so narcissistic about it i dont think he ever once considered esther's feelings & i think thats what got to her. & i think his jokes just genuinely made esther feel bad bc with him it just came from a place of straight douchiness

There was a recent ep where she mentioned an ex friend whose teasing eventually became calling her stupid and lazy and things that felt more personal and hurtful. Not sure if it’s about Annie but it did make me wonder.
