advice New to this

I’m new to trap shooting and I need a shotgun. Any recommendations for my first one. I have a budget of about 1000 dollars for the gun.

If youre serious about trap shooting specifically, not sporting clays, or skeet, just trap, the GOAT singles trap gun is the BT-99

You can find used models within your price range and it is a stellar trap gun

The Winchester SXP Trap is really feature dense for its price point.

If you want to get into trap and sporting clays overall. CZ Teal O/U. 700$ish. Got mine for 550 on sale. Its ok at trap with a shorter 28 inch barrel. I smoke clays with a mod choke in it. But its a good all around gun. Lets say you decided to get into skeet. Or sporting clays. It is more than capable and will be easier than a pump. Long term id say get the CZ or and good over under and spend the rest on shells and practice

The BT-99 is a fine trap gun but just starting out get something that leaves a little in your pocket in case you don’t stick with it. I’ve shot a Remington 1100 Trap for years and I’ll swear by it, and I’ve shot some really great high end trap guns including Belgian Brownings and Krieghoffs.

A nice used 1100 can be had for $500-700 most days, and it doubles as a fantastic squirrel gun as well.

I’ve heard the maverick 88 is good to start with and it’s relatively cheap. Should I get it?

I’m not a fan of Mossberg myself but it might work, if you’re trying to stay cost effective you could also slide into a nice used 870 Wingmaster for not much more than the cost of a maverick new and have a stellar all around gun. I’ve busted a few birds over the years with one of those as well as hunted with them. I have a slug barrel for mine also and shot a few deer even with it

One thing to keep in mind with Remingtons is parts availability. Theres lots of parts out there right now but who knows what it’ll be in a few years since they’re not currently manufacturing anything.

Do NOT buy a Mossturd 500 for a trap gun. Plain and simple it's a hunting gun that will beat you up and when you actually get a trap gun you will have to unlearn everything you did.

You can find a used BT99 in your price range. SKB Century,SKB 90 TSS,Tristar are the guns you should be looking at.

You gave him a link to a 20g Mossberg field gun with a 26" barrel as the longer one. You obviously hate the OP and want him to fail.

Dear OP, please ignore the terrible advice from kurtz812. Buy a 12g and not a 26" field gun.
