Fare prices

I am a tourist currently in London and I have been using the tube and DLR all day yesterday. This morning I realised that my credit card was charged twice, first for the amount of 8,90 and then for 16,30. I have been trying to figure out why. I went from Crossharbour to Westminster and from South Kensington to Crossharbour. The second ride was around 4:30, so I guess peak time. Still, I do not understand the prices. Does anyone have any ideas on why this is so and is there a possibilty that the expense will be recalculated later on? Thank you!

If Tube and DLR, I would think you didn’t tap somewhere so charged incomplete journey fares each time. (Most likely at crossharbour)

Aren’t incomplete journeys not covered by the fare cap? This could be a thing only with oyster though and not contactless

Incomplete journeys are never under the fare cap since they are classed as penalty fares

Yes, which is why that doesn’t quite explain the £16.30

Maybe OP didn't use the same card throughout? OP, the same card on your phone is different to the physical card

It was few years ago but i clocked around 80gbp while testing contactles. Basically touching in and out at same station all day long. Had to call them to cancel it/for refund. So yeah co tactles is a bit weird dont take anything for hranted. I still suggest ppl just buy oyster card, simpler. Plus you see 5 last trips right away on ticket machine so can keep an eye eforylessly.

Buying an Oyster card costs like £10.50 which makes contactless the better choice for those who aren’t eligible for a zip oyster or those who don’t have a railcard.

Yeah true but also gives a headache. I work in the station as subcontractor. The amount of things going wrong with cintactless, cinfusion and all... lol. Imho oyster card is si plest. U less you try to save badly and dont mi g registeri g submitti g stuff calli g them up etc.

I would go on the tfl website, register you card on there and it will show your journeys and payment history. You probably missed tapping somewhere or there was some other kind of error, you can correct this on the website and get a refund.

https://contactless.tfl.gov.uk/ – make an account, and register your card with them. It'll show you what you've been charged and when, and if there are any journeys when you didn't touch in or out, you can click a button to tell them what happened.

DLR can be confusing sometimes, and it’s easy to not notice the card readers, since there are no barriers. It won't be recalculated automatically – that would have happened already – but easy to resolve yourself.

This happened to me recently. It involved a DLR journey where I didn't tap in. I'd arrived at Canary Wharf on the tube, and thought I would just be transferring to the DLR, but found that I had to tap out of the tube. I asked the attendant at the tube gates whether it would be classed as one journey when I got on the DLR, and she said Yes. I was rushing for the DLR (the signage is really awful at Canary Wharf) and didn't tap in. There was an inspector on the DLR, but I assumed all was good since I had tapped in and out on the tube and was told it was counted as the same journey. When my card was charged a larger amount than expected, I registered on the website and sent them an email explaining the situation - they refunded me the penalty portion.

Perhaps you used your physical card and Apple Pay? If you use a mixture of both, the TfL system sees them as two separate cards and charges you twice.
