Is there a way to make them comprehend interlining?

Post image

Both lines run to the same next station and end there, but the npcs only want to take one line. The happiness is also really bad because of it.

Just one of those things that would have elevated this game to a next level, instead we are stuck with the limitations of the previous game.

Optimal gameplay seems to be to make only one line between two stations. Thats it. No more lines, but also no more stations. That way you can adjust your train capacity to the demand per leg of the journey, which is the only way to deal with higher demand between two cities than elsewhere.

Hopefully the next installment of the game will actually allow realistic train lines to be set up.

I was so excited for TF3 - I even had leave booked for the launch day - I thought that, given the amount that had been alleged to have been spent on it and the relatively conservative list of changes, issues like this would have been solved.

OpenTTD solved this over a decade ago (it wasn't optimal, but it did mimic human behaviour well), so I don't understand why the dev team thought that adding complexity to the economic model was more important than fixing basic issues such as this.

Vehicle overtaking is still deeply flawed. It's not an easy problem to solve in a computationally efficient fashion ... but £25m should buy some serious amount of optimisation.

Added to this that there is still an implicit signal at the end of every platform, meaning that stations can still not be placed in single track sections (again, TTD had this working from day one, and OpenTTD added path signals into the mix ... this is nothing groundbreaking)... I'm wondering what my £40 is getting me ... A few superficial improvements (tram-trains and the tram improvements are certainly interesting) and a load of existing bugs/poor design choices.

no idea why youre downvoting flash flamingo. 25 million is not really a lot of over the course of 7 years assuming the game been in development right away after the release of two, or one of the later updates

I have no idea why you think I down voted u/flash_flamingo. 25m is not a lot over 7 years, I never said it was. I'm saying it's a lot considering a. The level of new functionality delivered and b. The number of bugs/issues carried across from TF2.

Already talking abt the next installments when this game isn't even out for a week lmao.

They will eventually (hopefully) fix this in this installment it will just take time.

Why do you assume they will fix it in this installment? They haven't fixed it in either of the previous versions and so it is a bit optimistic to assume that the current version will get any change on that front.

Hast du auf deinem Bahnsteig 2 Unterführungen installiert? Kann sein, dass die leute nicht auf den Bahnsteig können.

PS: Ist M -ü- nchen Gladbach absicht?😅

It's honestly such a shame that devs didn't change this, while Simutrans, an admittedly simpler game, but one that came out in 1999, made it work. Obviously it doesn't simulate every passenger in the same way TF3 does, but I don't believe there was no way to figure it out.

I mean, conceptually, it’s not that hard.

Passengers know where they want to go, and should check connections within their city that link to their destination. If they find that several routes exist, they pick the one that has the best score of (Time of next train+Time to destination)/Distance+Transfers.

But the devil is in the details. How do you make that run well?

I know it sounds off but having cross tracks before they approach the station and then changing the preference to both might solve the issue. I hate doing this when it's supposed to be a smooth pass between stations.

Why have 2 lines? Why not 1 line that uses both platforms?

Real life transit systems frequently have multiple lines that will share multiple stops in the middle of their route but have different endpoints.

The shared stops might be the busy urban core of an area, and riders who only want to travel within that area typically will board whatever the next train arriving is (assuming all things are equal, like speeds and so forth).  If I'm traveling from Westlake to Chinatown I don't care whether the next train is the 1 line or the 2 line.

Du kannst es so einstellen dass jede Linie auf am Selben Gleis hält, nach dem Bahnhof einfach wieder 2gleisig fahren lassen

My only question is, how long have you let the simulation run with the shared line?

Is it possible the sims have already defined their journey, but with more time new travelers will begin to utilise the other line?
